Cloke and Dawes

Could anyone there yesterday tell me who they were kicking their goals on?

Was it Simpkin, Gilbert, Blake or other?

Blake was on Dawes (well Dawes was on Blake taking species).
Think Fisher spent some time on Cloke. Umps gave him one goal when Fisher had out marked him. Another time both Fisher and Gilbert were on him but he out marked them both thanks to a nice kick from the midfield out to his advantedge. At the other end (couldn't see it well) Cloke took a mark and goaled when he just waited down and about three saints defenders leapt under the ball.
Not a good ground or day for watching forwards when you're on the wing.

I wonder how long into the season when the Zac doubters start to realise that losing him wasn't the godsend they thought it would be. Key defenders are hard to replace, as we're discovering this pre-season. Almost every pre-season game our key backs have been monstered.

At the time it was being talked about (potentially losing Zac) I had a feeling if we let him go it would have been just as bad a move as when we let Shane Wakelin go, when Blight came on board. Losing Shane, who was perfectly good at FB and went on to play there in at least one GF for Collingwood, almost certainly cost us games and losing Zac may have the same effect.

As for yesterday, Fisher played on Cloke for the majority of the game. Blake played on Dawes in the first half and then Simpkin was subbed on in the 2nd half and played on Dawes.

Zac wanted to leave and we wanted him to stay..but obviously not enough..

My general ob, I reckon Dawes is playing the Leigh Brown role this year, and he is going to make it hard for alot of teams.

Didn't think he was going to make it as a pure forward, reckon this will suit him.

Now, hope our forward line clicks and there is plenty of threads on opposition forums titled 'Roo and Kosi'

Gilbert spent some time on both, fisher on Cloke and a bit of Paine, Dempster on Paine and finished on Cloke, blake was on both big boys at different periods in the first half and simpkin in the second half played on Dawes and Paine

Luckily Paine kicked 4 behinds from easy shots or he would have joined the party....

They had 17 shots between the three of them

Not saure I agree Sainterk. Dawes has been ordinary all pre-season. Bit of a concern that he found form against us I reckon. Indicates to me that the competition against him wasn't as high. Sam Reid's best game so far this year was against us . Darling played well last week, and Kennedy and Lynch didn't even play. For mine Simpkin and Wilkes look way out of their depth as Full backs. Gwilt is not the answer either when he comes back. He is a running back who can play tall. To be honest I'm not sure what the answer is, but we need a player capable of breaking even against the truly big gorillas in the comp. Almost every club has one.

For mine it's the biggest concern of pre-season. The results etc are no real big deal as it's obvious that all clubs are trying different things.

The other concern for me is that Roo doesn't look any more likely than last year to kick more than 2 goals a game if that. I recall only 3 years ago and beyond that almost every game he took to the field, 3 goals was almost a minimum for Roo (with his bad kicking) I will feel a whole lot better about the season if and when Roo finds form. I recall Lyon saying early in his coaching career with us that Roo playing well somehow means that people believe he coaches better......

With Roo and Kosi at the end of their careers, Zac would have become our most important player in the next 3 years.
Now we need to find a 195cm athletic guy who can play both ends. Not sure where you get them.
If it meant we lost Blale, Gram, Peake, Polo. Id be fine with that.
Oh well he has gone. Start praying for Jacko Ferguson and the 2012 draft.

After you click on "quote" to reply, you just delete the parts you don't want, from what comes up, but keep the brackets (and the name in between them) at both the start and end of the combined quotes. So if you wanted to quote this one, but wanted to delete your last post from it, but keep this reply of mine, you would click on "quote", as per usual and then go to the end of the bracket at the start (that has "quote=Anythingspossible...) and then highlight all the stuff that comes after that last ")" bracket, that you want to get rid of, up until the start of what I've replied here. Then press "delete". Then, if you've done it correctly, you'll just end up with this reply of mine, that you are replying to and what your reply to that is. It will get rid of any previous quotes that aren't necessary. If you don't get it right the first time, just experiment a bit with it. Delete different things inside the quotes and see what happens. Once you get the hang of it it's very easy and saves a lot of space!

And I agree. It seemed very strange to keep those that were likely to be on the fringe (and that we had lots of), yet let go the one that we needed the most and would most likely find hardest to replace. And the club said in the lead-up to that time that we "wouldn't lose anyone that we didn't want to lose", when it came to those that were out of contract, so it seems we were perfectly happy to let Zac go, which I found pretty baffling, despite his obvious weaknesses.
