Daniel ARCHER should be developed as a full back!
Daniel ARCHER should be developed as a full back! IMO he is the perfect size to play on the larger key forward/ruckman down back. I believe he would turn into a player similiar to Daniel MERRETT of Brisbane Lions and be the main stay of our defence.
I will be surprised if WILKES makes it as a key defender - he doesn't seem to want to play with maintaining contact and is much more suited to playing as a forward. Although perhaps Max may be able to improve this approach - I believe he would be a more productive forward than Kosi will be this year.
Hence for me ARCHER would make the perfect big key defender we need. However the SAINTS coaching staff have a different plan for Daniel as they were playing him forward before he was injured - I hope they consider the alternative.

That's okay clarky, you've certainly given us a few laughs yourself in recent weeksclarky449 wrote:I dont know what to say. I could laugh actually.
Any way, I don't see anything wrong with the suggestion, even though I may not necessarily agree with it or think it will happen. It's just a view.

Re: Daniel ARCHER should be developed as a full back!
Biggest problem for Archer is speed, most good full backs have explosive speed, Acher seems to be a plodder.
Re: Daniel ARCHER should be developed as a full back!
Size and strength wise I agree, but as mentioned, pace is the concern, and a major factor in being a good fullback...
Merrett is one of the quickest guys at the Lions over the first 20m I believe...
Unfortunately, it's a skill thats very hard to improve on if not naturally there...
Not a laughable suggestion by any means, just one or 2 key attributes short...

And to be fair, I think the suggestion has only been put due to our perceived deficiencies in that position.Sobraz wrote:Not a laughable suggestion by any means, just one or 2 key attributes short...
Let's hope Simpkin or Wilkes can make a fist of it.
Re: Daniel ARCHER should be developed as a full back!
Why do we want to players in their worst positions. In this case that probably isnt true, we could want him to rove.

I said it isnt. Roving would be worse. I have seen this guy on 10 occasions and he is a slow lumbering ruck forward at best IMO. I dont see how he could play FB.

That's right - anyone but Wilkes, you've taken every opportunity to take cheap shots at Wilkes - how long has he been at the club?
They might try him forward, but I reckon it could be back or not at all.
Not sure on Archer at FB just yet.....

Re: Daniel ARCHER should be developed as a full back!
Ive seen him live also and I dont believe he is that bad ! None of the larger forwards/ruckman are that quick in any event. It's more about the contested marking contests we need his size.plugger66 wrote:WinnersOnly wrote:Why is is such a funny suggestion Clarky?clarky449 wrote:I dont know what to say. Because he is slow and would get destroyed. Their is a reason why supporters arent in Football clubs because they dont understand.WinnersOnly wrote:Why is is such a funny suggestion Clarky?clarky449 wrote:I dont know what to say. I could laugh actually.

What do you mean in my case - you are presuming a lot Clarky... I played and coached at state level for 15 years and have seen Daniel play a number of times and am satisfied he could do the job. He couldn't be any worse than the players we had playing on Dawes and Cloke today!clarky449 wrote:In your case, yes i do.WinnersOnly wrote:Clarky and you know better do you ? Re: Daniel ARCHER should be developed as a full back!
Archer to full back is not such a silly idea. He can run 20 metres just under 3 seconds. This is good for a big guy. Not outstanding, but good. About the same as Hurley from Essendon. Not the same closing speed as Maxy or dare I say it, Dawson. Dawson is very mobile for his size.
Where did everyone come up with the idea that Archer is slow?
So.. his speed is OK. He likes body contact. He is tall enough and big enough to take really big forwards. His kicking and composure may be an issue. Yet to be seen though. Certainly worth some games in the VFL to have a look at this option.

The funny thing about footy is it is played on a footy ground and not an athletics track. Archer is slow off the mark on a footy ground and that comes from watching games not watching athletics.

Get one thing straight, Archer is not AFL standard. At the end of this season he will not be on our list. To suggest that he should be developed as our full back is laughable to say the least.
