Agree with your last statement. Funny how he didn't say too much about the other teams that were flogged. The Blues have had a horrible NAB cup and IMO they will make the 8 easily and be challenging for a GF.

True. The Cats have been written off for the last 3 seasons!
Gerard has gone up a couple of notches in my books.

AnythingsPossibleSaints wrote:As above. Also, with regard to the game at the weekend, he said we "didn't play anywhere near as well as we wanted to", which is what I suspected and said on the match thread, only to have many jump down my throat.
Was also interesting to hear Bomber Thompson say emphatically on AFL 360 tonight that Richmond's win over Geelong on the weekend would have been "enormous" for Richmond and that they would get a lot of confidence from it.
I guess he also doesn't know as much about these things as all those on here who keep saying pre-season games mean "nothing", or that there's "nothing to gain" from them.

Pav, I'd like to think it's a rev up, but I honestly think he just thinks someone else will be in at the Saints expense. Said we have fallen back to be a mid tier or something similar.Old Mate wrote:Isn't Gerard a Swans supporter considering he played out his career with them?SaintPav wrote:He's actually a St Kilda supporter..maybe he's trying to fire the boys up.SainterK wrote:Gerard has the Saints out of the eight this year.

I think Carlton will make the eight Old Mate, but I'm not so sure they will be challenging for the premiership.
Look at the Saints last season when Roo was down, and Goddard out of form due to injuries. Any different to Judd missing most of his preseason, and Jamieson still not back?

Re: Riewoldt on "on the coach" Tonight
I heard a snap shot of Ross at the Dockers presser either this week or last week making reference to the saints losing the last NAB challenge by 80 pts to port in 09 then winning 19 in a row (I think he said 20, but wasn't it 19).
People seem to chop and change as to whether it means much to suit their arguement..
Clearly didn't have much bearing on us in 09.
Having said that, I'd sure like to see some more signs that we're on the right track for the year.
The number of times Dwayne Russell said we were full strength ( less Gwilt and Raf) while Eagles had 8 or 9 out...was driving me insane.. wanted to turn the sound down.

Re: Riewoldt on "on the coach" Tonight
pies , cats & blues all had 10 goals losses on the weekend , I guess they're all gone for the year too.
watching the replay of the game , I was not unhappy about the way we fought it out . We had many poor turnovers ( this can improve ) , we outscored them 4 goals to 2 ( would have been 5 if the 1/4 had gone 10 seconds longer ) and WC had 3 shots at goals from frees ( the type of free kicks that only seemed to be paid one way , when you play an interstate side on their home turf )
I was happy by the lack of slow boring tempo styled footy we played !

Completely agree, time wasting with the same old tired questions and comments. Between Roos and Healey I thought they might have asked something positive/relevant, as you mentioned above.nobhead wrote:watched the interview . biggest waste of time,SaintPav wrote:He's actually a St Kilda supporter..maybe he's trying to fire the boys up.SainterK wrote:Gerard has the Saints out of the eight this year.

I don't know what his point was, Eagles finished above the Saints last year anyways.

Re: Riewoldt on "on the coach" Tonight
just hope that knee is ok...
it will be really sad to see riewoldt play out his twilight years well well below what he remember him for.
It is also annoying in the sense he is a very hated player by opposition fans and when he goes for those leads and completely misjudges the flight of the ball or shanks a certain goal they just lay into him with the vileness of a thousand collingwood supporters.
That s***s me, when i think he used to single handedly shut those morons up week in week out in his prime. Remember those games, those prelim finals....it was Riewoldt vs the world and he would always win.
We couldnt win a flag when he was at his best, we certainly cant when he is not at his best. The next gen are also not old enough and experienced enough to carry him to a flag...
fairy tales dont exist in stkilda land.
you can just cycle through the greats who never got a flag at this club.
Nick Riewoldt is another great of this club who ,by the looks of it, will also walk away with no flag. Such a champion he is. So deserving of it.

Thats what shytes me the most.
When I argue with other teams flogs .....1 on 1, player v player......I have them covered from Baldock, Lockett, Harvey, Riewoldt and Stuart.......THEN I get the obligatory....."how many flags u got @sshole" and I shut up.
Its a team game. As teams go we've been ordinarywhen u look at the only real measure that counts.
