we absolutely have to get this through. it has so much potential.

Dont see the point myself unless they are getting huge money. We arent going to get many if any members out of it. We lose a home ground advantage and our form in NZ is poor at best.

Would want to hear from the club and see what they see as the benefits are.

thats how we treated the tasmanian arrangement and look where that got us.
we need to be looking 10 years into the future. developing another supporter base isnt going to hurt us.
plus the increase exposure for sponsorship for a game that will be televised directly into melbourne on a day where there is only 1 other game is great!!!!
there are so many positives. if we dont take this opportunity someone else will and just like the hawthorn tasmanian opportunity we will be kicking our selves for letting it go

Tasmania have AFL supporters. NZ have none. And all games are now directly into Melbourne so there is no difference if there are 2 games or 9. And as I said our form in NZ is poor.
Re: Saints to play home game in NZ on ANZAC day
It's not about getting new members it's about getting big pay days for the games we play over there to offset our shoddy Etihad arrangement.
It's a market that the AFL would love to get their hands on. I see them getting right behind it and we'll get financially compensated.

Is this Nettlefold's attempt at being completely unoriginal and basically stealing the concept of a 'home away from home' re the Hawks...oh and the Kangas however they could not even develop a market in another state...
If it is...it is kind of laughable.

Re: Saints to play home game in NZ on ANZAC day
Because of New Zealand's time zone, you could pretty much have a night game there straight after the collingwood and essendon game

As opposed to back to back games every Saturday and Sunday. The Collingwood Essendon game is an event, our game will just be another game that will be played on a small ground in NZ with a lot of NZérs there wondering what the hell is going on. Like i said unless we get huge money then there is not one benefit.
Re: Saints to play home game in NZ on ANZAC day
p66 the very reason why we want to go over there is to get HUGE money. Isn't that obvious?

Sorry I missed the figure we are getting for the game. What is it?
Re: Saints to play home game in NZ on ANZAC day
thank god the club isnt as short sighted as you p66.
the game will get an unchallenged tv slot. which means more exposure for our sponsors.

and because an official figure hasnt been provided yet it means we shouldnt investigate this opportunity?plugger66 wrote:Old Mate wrote:p66 the very reason why we want to go over there is to get HUGE money. Isn't that obvious?

we have to get this opportunity over the line, which means making sure the $$$ are good. we wouldnt go if the $$$ werent good. hell i'd go if it meant we didnt lose as much money as we do for a home game at etihad against an opponent that doesnt traditionally have strong attendances.
now i know why other posters have blocked you p66.

The St Kilda Football Club is in preliminary discussions with the AFL about the expansion of the game in New Zealand and the role the Saints may play.
With the recent inclusion of AFL as a sanctioned sport in schools in New Zealand, the Saints would like to develop the game further through engagement with the community.
The Saints also see an opportunity to build player talent pathways for local talent to play AFL and potentially play games for Premiership points in Wellington in the future.
“We have had very preliminary discussions with the AFL,” said St Kilda Football Club Chief Executive Officer, Michael Nettlefold.
“We plan to continue those discussions over the coming months but at this point nothing has been agreed.”

Re: Saints to play home game in NZ on ANZAC day
There is a LOT of potential in a move like this in the long term, IF the AFL are looking to expand the game into NZ.
YOU GET WHAT YOU SETTLE FOR.
