Could we stage a water polo match instead. Peakey and Dempster are pretty good in the water at least

They've cancelled the Wang Cup races, obviously horseflesh is more important than our players.
Old enough to repaint, but young enough to sell

Yep because everytime a meeting is cancelled in Melbourne the footy also is. Do footy players play on grass 6 inches long?

I really hate to agree with plugger but he's right on this one.plugger66 wrote:Bernard Shakey wrote:They've cancelled the Wang Cup races, obviously horseflesh is more important than our players.

But a big dump of rain Sarurday arvo should see the match cancelled if the ground resembles a lake again.

Re: Wangaratta Weather
Well the locals sound pretty upbeat this morning. Apparently the ground looks pretty good, they've got 'plenty of pies and sausage rolls and the stuff in cans,' and are predicting that most of tomorrow's rain will fall further north.

I reckon the game will happen regardless of the weather.
The AFL will put fans first and player safety second IMO.
The trick is to play the kids and rest up all our guns if necessary.
But if it's not too horrendous it's good wet weather practice - we will most like cop a few rain effected venues during the real season.
Guys - have any of you actually played footy in the wet? - tends to be the least injury prone games people slide through tackles - the ground gives making knee and ankle injuries far less likely. wet weather makes team injuries less of a problem but getting match practice a bigger issue. Sliding into a fence is the only increased injury threat.

If they call the game off thwe whingers will complain that weve had one week less preperation that everybody else (expt Ess)
If they play and one of our players gets any injury at all the whingers will complain that the game should haev been called off cos of the conditions and its the AFL's fault our player got hurt
If they move the game to another location the whingers will complain its not suitable for elite AFL players
So basically whataever happens someone will complain..its the SS way

There is a difference between having different opinions and complaining about everything that happens.
Re: Wangaratta Weather
Good drying day up here at Wangaratta, mild and no showers.
So, all will be dependent if the Bureau's 'Heavy Rain' comes in Saturday. Up to 25mm before the game, a guess would be the ground may hold up but more like the 50mm and anyones guess how deep the water will be. More rain updates tomorrow morning !

I'll go with the option
"If they play and one of our players gets any injury, the game should have been called off cos of the conditions and its the AFL's fault our player got hurt'
For now at least, depending on how it pans out.

Re: Wangaratta Weather
According to KB on SEN this morning Essendon are hiring light planes to fly in and the Saints are catching the bus.
Stick with the bus Saints, it's going to be a bumpy ride into Wangaratta going by the wind that's blowing at the moment or the predicted flooding rains tomorrow.

How quickly our club has fallen from grace.
Maybe Clive Palmer could improve our future with a round ball.
