Two and Two
I just read the article in the Herald Scum about the two on the bench and two substitutes and how that would change recruiting and got me starting to think, if that rule had have been introduced in 2010 would we have had an upper hand on the filth?
I know it's another what if grand final, Collingwood thread, but still interesting thought.

Re: Two and Two
I don't understand why it would. Collingwood have had one of the most flexible teams for the last few years. In 2010, they ditched their second ruck and ran an extra midfielder through their bench. We dropped Mac for the GF because we couldn't justify carrying two rucks. The three and one change basically made teams get rid of a ruck or a key forward and institutionalised the kind of rotations that Collingwood were already doing. I don't see how two and two disadvantages Collingwood any more than it does us.mr.wobble wrote:if that rule had have been introduced in 2010 would we have had an upper hand on the filth?
I have a couple of 'ifs' of my own. Would the 2010 result have varied if either:
A) Collingwood travelled as much as St Kilda did or
B) if St Kilda had rested more of their guns in the two meaningless games at the end of that H+A season.
Yeah nah pleasing positive

You say "Herald Scum", do you mean "Herald Sun"?

Re: Two and Two
I believe Mr.Wobble is referring to the fact that we were a man down for the entire second half, with Gardiner injured. Having the same amount of rotations available as the opposition may have made a difference. Even the smallest advantage may have been enough. Just wasn't our day.
I think travel may have had a small impact but resting players wouldn't have changed much in my opinion. Our round 22 effort that year was practically a rest anyway.

Also just considering about the fact that Collingwood obviously had been recruiting burst players and using rotations heavily whilst we were more of a grind out a win team.
I'm also thinking about how different players careers would/could be affected. For example, previously we have recruited 'athletes' and are now going for that more explosive burst type player. Many players would be overlooked if they didn't have the stamina to keep up.
