Re: Wangaratta game.
From Friday's Border-Mail -
"THE Essendon-St Kilda preseason match coinciding with the official opening of the $3 million Wangaratta Showgrounds redevelopment
on March 3 is headed for a sellout. More than 7000 tickets have been sold for the AFL practice match with Wangaratta Council anticipating
a late rush of sales next week.
The crowd figure had originally been capped at 15,000 people, but the figure is under review in the interests of spectator comfort and
could drop to 12,000.

Re: Wangaratta game.
Here is a quick link to the development
http://www.wangaratta.vic.gov.au/busine ... opment.asp
There is limited seating in the stand, however seating (byo chair) available on the cycle track that surrounds the oval.
A unique experience!
As mentioned previously, all tickets are GA so its first-in-best-dressed.

Re: Wangaratta game.
Thanks y'all. Was 99% sure it was'nt getting televised but just thought i'd check with the good folk here first! Am pretty befuddled as to why it is'nt though considering the big deal in getting the footy rights in the first place. Especially considering that next weeks game against the Eagles will be on! Aww well.
OH WHEN THE SAINTS!!!!!

Re: Wangaratta game.
No live TV coverage of any kind, so I'm hoping the AFL puts any match video up on its Game Analyser page.
Round One of the NAB Cup is there. so you would hope Round Two will be.
Only problem is, it can take up to a day to be posted, and it's got that slightly speeded-up look.

Re: Wangaratta game.
The development is complete now. The Official opening of the complex will co-incide with this game on 3 March.saintbrat wrote:thanks foz- so that development is complete?
is there a fence between oval and cycle track?
A temporary fence will be constructed around the cycle track at the showgrounds enabling seating (BYO chairs) on the track just five metres from the action.

It's a suburban type ground with standing room, so you squeeze them in tight like the good old VFL days.
Something reekes of insurance to me!

Re: Wangaratta game.
For those planning on going, this is what I have discovered.
The playing surface is looking a treat after the rain last night, it’s not currently being used for any footy training. There are no markings on yet, the AFL have requested that there be 6m from the boundary to the edge of the grass, this won’t happen behind the goals, there will be around 4-5 m to the edge. I’m guessing that the cycling track is around 8 metres to the boundary fence. The cycle track is slightly raised towards the boundary fence, so if you are standing at the fence you can see clearly across the ground. There will be a temporary fence half way up the cycle track and between the temp fence and the boundary fence, there will be enough room for about 3 -4 rows of byo seating, standing will not be allowed anywhere in this area. There are not a lot of entrances around the boundary to this area and unless you are a fit 12yo, I wouldn’t suggest anyone climbs over it.
Outside the boundary fence is fully grassed and slightly raised again, there is the usual row of aluminium bench seating. Behind that could hold another row of seating then several rows of standing, the area slopes down towards the road which is inside the ground. This is typical for most of the oval.
I was happy to discover St Kilda were allocated the Evans St end, it is more spacious as there are no buildings immediately behind. The rooms St Kilda are using are at the opposite end. Looking down the ground, the original grandstand is on the left wing. The electronic scoreboard is on the right wing and there is a splattering of clubrooms, media box, food and drink areas etc. It wasn’t obvious to me where the interchange will be. There are no portable toilets or temporary fencing as yet. There were only 4 new light towers but apparently they are bright enough for AFL standard

Re: Wangaratta game.
Wife and I bought our tickets and eventually found accommodation in Wangaratta. Hope the rain stays away.
A question for the locals, is there any cover at the ground? Where can you park?
