If he was gone he wouldn't say so IMO. He isn't going anywhere. If that's what the story is about.

I think the standard lines will be repeated. The Hurley approach compared to the Goddard approach is very different, it will be interesting to see how they turn out.

Apparently Gerad Healy said on 3AW hat he thinks Fisher is more of a target for GWS than Goddard.

"I would love to play for St Kilda for the rest of my career, however I cannot stop people talking about where I will be in 2013, because free agency is a very real part of this current football landscape. All I can say is that I am committed 100% to St Kilda at this time, and will continue to give my all this year. Any contract discussions will be between myself, my manager, and the football club"

Who turns 31 next year? McEvoy is the obvious target.

Well they were effectively free to them as delisted or no-currency players - Brogan, Cornes, Power and McDonald. I think that was a once-off to help their 18 years olds this season. There plan is to challenge in another 3-4 years that's why they targeted mainly 21 year olds. McEvoy fits the profile perfectly. I don't think Goddard does, let alone Fisher.

Hey....maybe those two tweets are not related...

Maybe it's the director of coaching role being announced, and it's someone controversial that will be met with mixed emotions by Saints fans.

Grant, Mick?

Something like that?

Goddard will continue to be a man for all roles, although he will be encouraged, along with Nick Dal Santo's sizzling left foot, to take the "game on" more.

BRENDON Goddard has not been offered a deal by Greater Western Sydney and insists he wants to stay at St Kilda.
The Saints playmaker headlines a list of possible GWS targets, including Essendon's Michael Hurley and Collingwood's Scott Pendlebury, but says any potential move is only speculation.

"I am planning to stay at St Kilda," he said.

"As I sit here today, I like the thought of being a one-club player for my whole career," Goddard said.

Asked his mindset if he was to be offered a multi-year, multi-million dollar deal, he said: "When I get to that bridge I'll cross it.

"There might come a time later in the year - might - when I'll have that decision. To be honest, I'm not in a position to be thinking any further than this year because that's the responsibility I have to myself, the footy club and my teammates."

He said the expansion club had not contacted him or his management, Elite Sports Properties. "My management would not withhold information like that from me. So, no, I haven't got an offer," he said.

Industry sources suggest Goddard would be a $1million-plus-a-year player if he played for GWS.

At St Kilda, a salary of $600-000 to $700,000 a year would be available. Discussions about a new contract have yet to begin with St Kilda.

"I've got no time limit, there's no rush on it and I think the footy club feels that way as well," he said.

"When they are willing to open discussions like any other time, I'm happy to do so. We haven't talked about it yet, but it's only early."

if sheedy stays at gws he wont go after BJ. his strategy is get 18-22y olds and then 30-32 to get them through the next 3 years.

i tend to agree. everythings thats happened so far and the articles that have been written tonight are pointing towards GWS not really wanting goddard for the price theyd have to pay to get him to move.

the hurley situation stinks like the other situations. i think hurleys gone. he fits the age group. he fills the gap they have, can play CHB/CHF, which is a huge hole for them. they'll get another mid to replace mcdonald, try steal a young ruck like mcevoy/clarke, try get another couple of older backmen.

the worries for me arent goddard, theyre mcevoy and fisher. they fit the age group and strategy.

With the exception of last season I've enjoyed watching Goddard play and irrespective of whether he is at the club or not beyond 2012 I just look forward to seeing the old Goddard circa 2009/10 play this season. The article seems to clear up his excuse for not playing to his potential last season.

Its a good article but it doesnt tell us whether he is staying or going and fair enough by BJ. We may finish 12 and he gets offerred over a one million so why wouldnt you go or we may make the GF and just lose again and the young come good and he thinks we can win it next year and no amount of money will make him go.

I think that pretty much sums it up.

As much as we would love BJ to have re-signed I can fully understand why he hasn't at this stage. And our own club probably wants to have a look at how he goes in 2012 before putting an enormous contract in front of him.

If GWS weren't around it probably wouldn't be a big deal and we can't expect club and player to change everything just because the Giants are lurking.

Whatever will be, will be 8-)
