An ode to our brownlow history

Post: # 1190953Post hungry for a premiership »

It is commonly pointed out that St.Kilda has the most wooden spoons of any club and is the equal least successful in terms of premierships.

Well, for my 500th post, I'd like to point out a less-known fact, and pay tribute to our success, in that as far as Brownlow Medallists go, we are equal second on the all-time table.

South Melbourne/Sydney is 1st with 14, and coming in equal 2nd with 10 apiece is St.Kilda and Footscray/Western bulldogs.

Collingfilth is fourth with 9 and Fitzroy and Essendon equal 5th with eight apiece.

So, I pay tribute to our success in the brownlow!!

1925 - Colin Watson
1957 - Brian Gleeson
1958 - Neil Roberts
1959 - Verdun Howell
1965 - Ian Stewart
1966 - Ian Stewart
1967 - Ross Smith
1987 - Tony Lockett
1997 - Robert Harvey
1998 - Robert Harvey

We're due for another one!!!

I'd never looked and noted we won 3 years in a row - Twice.

but we missed 2007
and hope we don't have to wait till 2017

I'd happily swap 10 our Brownlows since they started in 1924 for 10 Cups.

Agreed.

I guess the fact that we've won the 2nd most Brownlows kind of shows in some way that although we don't have many cups to show for our long, long history, no one can say that there haven't been a bounty of legendary players who wore the red, white & black and our history is bland but not littered with colourful champions and brilliant players.

Is that an ode. I thought it had to rhyme.
