The 2012 StK AGM - Right!
Part 1 - The meeting
They locked us out of the hall till almost 7:00.
Meeting began at 7:05
Bruce Eva with arm in sling as MC
Introduced Chris Pilchen
Chris introduced the players.
All present except Saad who has had a death in the family.
Leadership group came out last.
Greg Right Westaway
Started by paying tribute to Jim Stynes' presidency of Melb (nice touch).
Pleased with 4 consec years of finals - right
Pleased with move to Seaford
Pleased with the establishment of the Academy
Our aim is now to be inclusive of the community
Right
We are heading in a new direction.
Aim is to be a Power club
The loss this year is disappointing but is due to
- declining membership
- declining merchandise sales
- reduced sponsorship
- our poor stadium deal
Right?
We have been too insular
But now the bubble has burst.
It's a line in the sand.
Lots more "rights".
Took questions on the accounts.
But disallowed all 4
Told them to wait till gen business.
Life memberships to NDS, JK and LM
Interesting that their were 5, 19, and 9 proxy votes opposing each of them respectively
Continued to ignore questions as constitution amendments were rolled through.
Next up general business i.e. questions.

Part 2 (of 3) - General Business - Questions
The people who had there questions rejected earlier now had their chance.
Daniel
If we lose $1.5m in good times how will we go in bad times?
MN - The AFL have agreed to give us $2.6m this year as compensation and $7m over 3 years.
This is because we are disadvantaged by the AFL stadia policy.
AFL fixturing that denies certain clubs access to blockbusters and MCG revenue will now get compensated for it.
Pokies 1
Questioner expressed the view that is was inconsistent with our values to be sponsored by a betting agency and rely on pokies revenue.
Greg Rightaway said he sympathised but it was a commercial reality and Centrebet is an AFL sponsor.
Pokies 2
Encouraged the board to end our pokies dependency.
Pointed out that we only earn $30k per machine compared with Collingwood $100k per machine.
Demanded Ian McLoud (Coles exec) address the meeting.
Also suggested part of his $15m salary could offset our pokie revenue.
IM - said Coles had about 200 poker machines and supported responsible gambling
GW - pointed out IM had grown Coles by over $1b and earnt his salary
Gena
Asked about our lack of a major sponsor
MN - pointed out Jeldwen had been hit hard by the US downturn
Said that presentations are being made to several potential new sponsors
But difficult with new clubs incl soccer/rugby
Christian
No question.
Just said her dad had lost $1m on pokies and it had destroyed her family.
But urged everyone to just work as a team.
Then left.
Mr "Bayside"
Wondered if the word "Bayside" could be included in our name.
Rightaway - agreed with the sentiment and our target is Port Melb to Portsea
But doesn't support a name change.
Cheersquad lady
Pointed out that CS membership has increased and now they have to pay for reserved seats.
Why doesn't the club support them.
MN - club does support the CS. The reserved seats are only $20 per season and has been forced on them.
Leanne
Criticised the board for lack of gender diversity
And asked how our organisational psychologist is going.
GW - said the board welcomed female members if they had the right skills
Then latched on to the fact that we have 3 psychologists who are all female and doing a terrific job.
Lady
Also got on the gender bandwagon and waffled on about brand and image and the impact on sponsorship and how she could help the board identify potential female candidates
GW agreed off-field incidents did impact our sponsorships
Jeff
Asked about the future of Moorabbin
MN - there will be a family day there later this year
Moorabbin is still important to StKFC
Part of our community approach
Next - Scott Watters

Re: The 2012 StK AGM - Right!
the guy who asked the question of Ian mcleod Coles director re pokies etc is Stephen Mayne who is a self proclaimed share activist. He says he holds min 500 share in each of the public companies so he can go to AGMs etc.
He also used to either own Crickey.com or still writes on it.

Part 3 (of 3) Scott Watters
When the questions stopped you could hear Westaway breathe a sigh of relief and mumble a few "rights" under his breath.
Bruce introduced the sheepdog who looks a lot like Robert Harvey - same haircut.
Then blow me down if Scott didn't keep saying "Right" in his address - though not as often as GW.
SW
Spoke of Values and Leadership
Also suggested that GW singing is definitely outside of the values.
(GW attempted to sing "We do like to be beside the seaside" in answering the earlier "Bayside" question).
He said he won't speculate on results but said it was about "process".
Praised his support staff.
Pointed out that CP has recruited 12 new (11 young) players to the club.
This has changed the whole dynamic of the club.
Praised his assistants - Sexton, Kingsley, Laidley, TE
And the specialists Aaron H, TS40, and Max
Said they were recruited because of their abilities not that they are ex StK.
Said the players were responding to them.
The Academy is important and has grown from 1 person to 4 with a new head to be appointed.
He has a media focus and is intent on good relationships and access
Wants more open training but also needs a balance of closed training sessions to protect our IP/ game plan.
He believes the comp underestimates StK's abilities.
He is happy with the pre season
Happy with how everyone is performing
But test will be on April 1.
Promised one thing - that our players would give everything they had.
Meeting concluded at 8:25 with a video of how our commercial was made.
That's all - right!

Good summary thanks Enrico.
Seriously what sort of supporter votes no by proxy on a life membership for loyal players??
No Orange hats this year?

Re: The 2012 StK AGM - Right!
One lady spoke against it saying the members should have the right to vote on life membership.defacto wrote:anyone know what happened to the amendment to allow the board to decide on the life membership?
She asked that it be voted on separately.
Ross Levine (the Legal guy) said he interpreted her question as a comment and recommended all 4 proposals be voted on together.
Then it was bulldozed through.
One humorous moment was when GW asked if there were any nays to Kosi's nomination, Kosi sat straight up in his chair and gazed at the audience from side to side looking menacing.
But no-one voted against him (apart from 19 moron proxy voters)

Re: The 2012 StK AGM - Right!
What's the point of the agm? Board does what it wants and people ask retarded questions. the good questions just get ignored
Re: The 2012 StK AGM - Right!
It was also funny when they asked to vote on life membership and who was in favour. Kosi put his hand straight up with the rest of us.
I thought Scotty Watters spoke very well.

Re: The 2012 StK AGM - Right!
Thanks for the insight.
Does anyone vet the questions cause some are embarrassing.....surely we have a "sorry that questions to stupid to ask" component in our constitution?
I love the female gender benders and the one who can "help" the board attract female candidates...FFS its an AGM not a recruitment drive for Germain Greer..
It would be interesting to know that outside core areas of sponsorship, pokies and AFL handouts.....what plans do the Board have to grow our revenue base cause clearly we need to think outside the box in a tough competitive environment and we need a way to as much as possible safeguard ourselves from fluctuations in revenue cause we "got a bad draw...."

and after GW had said there were 19 no's for kosi and he asked for show of hands the whole tam put their hands up to cover the numbers,ando051 wrote:It was also funny when they asked to vote on life membership and who was in favour. Kosi put his hand straight up with the rest of us.

amazing as to why they would object to Dal and Joey too though- and when Milney got Life membership there were also no's from proxies.
depends on what your looking for Bob- maybe it's my addiction showing but amazes me when people ask questions that have been answered via the media and interviews repeatedly over the last few months-, and peple with agendas have agendas where ever they go.by bobmurray » Wed 08 Feb 10:33 pm

I look for the body and speech langauge, Greg says more ' rights' when he is covering bases as set out by need- when he speaks from the heart/ head and off the cuff he is direct and shows great cconviction- his passion comes to the for with clear direction.
and the Captain is VERY relaxed- had a chat post meeting and he was happy to hang around and reminisce on his early years- the most relaxed chat I have ever had with him,,,,,,
: but he was very approachable.not that I've had many. :wink
