Hopefully this year he is given decent opportunities. Lyon held back his development and gave him little opportunity. You could say that for a number of younger players.ausfatcat wrote:heard that every preseason since he has been on the listOld Mate wrote: From all reports Armo is prepped for a massive year.

Are you saying Harves is no good? Kent Kinglsey is still there.Old Mate wrote:I think generally we suffered not having decent line coaches last year. Plenty of options there, with Schneids, Jack, Benny & others rotating through there as well !!
Anyway, a year (two in Lenny's case) is a long time in footy. Who knows Steven may step up another level. Armo may take his opportunities in the midfield. Someone from left field may step up. Laidley may be a midfield genius. Hayes may be past it and play more in the forward line.

I'm not in know however from an outsiders point of view we will be far better off with Laidley instead of Harves. Harves was/is a seriously inexperienced coach.SaintPav wrote:Are you saying Harves is no good? Not so much you can do for physical ailments at this stage.
HOWEVER, we can try to mend his psyche by releasing him to a role that will see him double teamed less often and the weight of the world moved from his shoulders somewhat.

Riewoldt and Goddard to live up to their reputations ,Clarke and Ray to defy theirs in 2012!
At 29 years of age his career is on the decline. We need to lower our expectations of him. Hopefully someone steps up to give him support.Con Gorozidis wrote:from the responses to this thread it seems the riewoldt issue remains as mysterious as ever.
some people feel his knee is terminal decline.
did he have any treatment for the knee over summer???

the next question is if his knee is no good and he is in decline should he be skipper?
on field leaders should lead by example. a struggling skipper is bad for morale and has a real effect down the group . We all know how the skipper can lift the team when they are going well. Should NDS take over?
maybe he had something done over summer to his knee that we dont know about?

Roo is not a contested player. He should play the same role however we need to look at different options and be less predictable.Con Gorozidis wrote:could he bulk up and be a stay home forward and run less?Old Mate wrote:At 29 years of age his career is on the decline. Roo on the decline is still a very good player. I think he can still kick his 40 odd goals.
If we plan on Goddard being our captain one day then it may as well be now. If we are planning on doing something similar to Geelong by appointing a young captain (like McEvoy) then there's no harm in keeping Roo on for another year.
Possibly however at the end of the day hes just another delistered player we've picked up. Insurance IMO. Hopefully Stanley and Siposs step up and Markworth in a year or two.Saints94 wrote:Wilkes??Old Mate wrote:At 29 years of age his career is on the decline. We need to lower our expectations of him. noone is on his back. we are having a level balanced discussion.didzee wrote:get off his back again
he will star barring injury
he was about our 10th best player last year and is in the top 5 in the afl for pay and the captain who needs to lead by example on field.
so its ok to talk about it openly. no point putting heads in sand.
its no shame being injured.
im just trying to work out where the knee is at and where he is in his career.
sheesh.

No reason why he will not get back to his usual quality.Con Gorozidis wrote:noone is on his back. we are having a level balanced discussion.didzee wrote:get off his back again

sheesh.
Even if he kicks at 50% with his usual output he is still good for 60 goals plus this season. Couple that with Milne and Schnieder plus a fit Kosi who really should be kicking a few a game we should be going ok.
Should, should, should though.

A clean out is just that. s*** happens and if any of us were playing professional sport we would probably need the same op at one stage or another.matrix wrote:well it depends
was it just a basic clean out?
or is it f***ed and nearly bone on bone?
ops are nothing
whats the condition of the actual knee?
