So, you are saying if you finish top 3, anything can happen??Sick Nal Danto wrote:I hate that line, people say that every year, but it is quite obvious that the finals are designed for the 1 of the top 3 to winArmoooo wrote:

So anything but a top 4 finish will make it very hard to win the premiership
Will we really be that bad?

I know back then you didn't need to win games to advance? Completely different? It has always been hard to win a GF from outside the top few teams but nothing is impossible, just less likely. We should give up if we find out we can only finish 6th -there's no point then.plugger66 wrote:Completely different system now.gringo wrote:I wish someone had told Adelaide in 97.bozza1980 wrote:So, you are saying if you finish top 3, anything can happen??Sick Nal Danto wrote:I hate that line, people say that every year, but it is quite obvious that the finals are designed for the 1 of the top 3 to winArmoooo wrote:

I feel it will be a sad to year to behold.
Riewoldt will really be a "beyond it" player this year. Just a little too old and the body too ruined from years of great service.
Kosi will continue to never reach his ultimate potential.
Dal Santo will still be good but older and slower.
Montagna will drop off sharply in his twilight.
Goddard will still be godly.
But it's just not enough to win a grand final.
These players will not go UP A GEAR and but continue to offer "she'll be right" performances every now and then.

I have no faith in our youth. Our club simply can't draft magical players anymore. Remember the original Nicky Winmar...magical. Tony Locket..magical. Robert Harvey...magical.

He states we won't win the flag this year. That's not too outlandish a statement.
He doesn't say we are bottom eight material either.
i am Melbourne Skies - sometimes Blue Skies, Grey Skies, even Partly Cloudy Skies.
This, people seem to hate it when we say we arent going to win the Grand Final..saintspremiers wrote:No he's just being realistic in his assessment.PJ wrote:So let me guess you're a motivational speaker?ralphsmith wrote:I feel it will be a sad to year to behold.

Where have I said anything other than it's a negative doom and gloom post - where have I said anything about Grandfinals. What a motherless post - you really contribute alot don't you?clarky449 wrote:This, people seem to hate it when we say we arent going to win the Grand Final..saintspremiers wrote:No he's just being realistic in his assessment.PJ wrote:So let me guess you're a motivational speaker?ralphsmith wrote:I feel it will be a sad to year to behold.

Im sorry, you are? I dont believe i used the word "PJ". It is not all about you, and their is a reason for that. Can't say I agree with all of that - if we were still under Lyon, then I'd say yes, more likely.
Roo we will have to wait and see.
Kosi seems to be better since shedding a few kilos and under a new coach with a different approach who knows what these two may be able to contribute.
Dal is 28 this year and Joey 29 - hardly in the twilight of their careers just yet.
Gwilt was one of our most consistent players along with Dempster until he went down with his knee. If he can get back to around that level on his return, then we'll be doing alright I think.
Gilbert, Clarke and Ray could all benefit with a shot of confidence, which I have a feeling Watters may be able to provide.
I think we have a good bunch of kids coming through, but the bulk of these need more senior time to go to the next level - another thing that Watters is reportedly good at developing, so who knows?
I'm not saying we're going to make the GF or that you're wrong or I'm right, but I feel all is not quite so gloomy as you're suggesting...
