If Demetriou is fair-dinkum, he should launch a full-blown investigation into that 2005 WCE premiership winning team and no doubt through witnesses, maybe player testimonies etc. enough evidence of the taking of banned substances for AFL players could be gathered and then he should punish them accordingly.[/quote]

Should also investigate the tainted 92 Premiership team.
In 1991 WCE were a bunch of skinny kids.
In 1992 they had muscles on muscles.
Everyone knows the story but the AFL have always turned a blind eye.
The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.
They can even WATCH LIVE FOOTY!

yup, in the afl and in society generally for twenty-somethings.Spinner wrote:And drugs are prevalent more than people think. I would say Dale Lewis was a lot closer to the mark with his statement a while ago than most people think.

what a load of CRAP !! We see this happen every year skinny kid from the previous year bulk up over the off season .. I hate the WCE as much as the next person but please get your facts correct !! The reason the eagles players came back stronger and bigger was due to all the players becoming full time athletes the players at the eagles were the first to have dedicated nutritionist they trained every day and were doing doble the body conditioning work than the rest of the AFL ... Not drug cheating just more professional practices and better developed sports science .. The eagles were on strict training practices during this time while clubs like St Kilda were stuck in the "pie" night era ...Enrico_Misso wrote: Should also investigate the tainted 92 Premiership team.

Hi St Trav, I'm happy to accept what you say above as you're over there and in the know. On that basis, do you have any inside word on their most recent premership side? For me, that's the really suss one.st_Trav_ofWA wrote:what a load of CRAP !! We see this happen every year skinny kid from the previous year bulk up over the off season .. Have to agree with Dave Mc on that one. Family live in Perth and remember hearing about how the Weagles were doing all these weights three times a week in the preseason and their players said that after each training session they were so wrecked that they couldn't even drive.
They ramped up what Kennedy's Commandos did in the early 60s to gain the physical edge.
Just out of interest, when did the 'Pleasant Sunday Mornings' and steak, eggs and chips after training Thursday nights finish (90s?)- remember Burkey and Loewe talking about that stuff in newspaper articles.
And at the same time, Lockett, Burns and Frawley referring to their trip home to Ballarat after training as being a "six pack trip" - and sometimes more than that!

West coasts last flag came with the controversy of the drug taking again I don't think it had anything to do with their teams performance in fact if anything it would have disadvantaged the group due to the effects of the drugs reported .. I know a few people who had seen some of the player under the influence at various night spots in Perth and honestly they struggled to stay on their feet so the claims it helped their on field ability seems very very far fetched to me ..

I still have vivid memories of Cousins in a game at the Dome against us performing like a 'superman' after half-time.
So much so that many around me (including myself) were heard to utter comments as to 'what did he take at half-time?
I've been priveliged to watch the whole of the greatest 'running machine' to ever play the game's carrer and his running/endurance feats paled into insignificance compared to Cousins that day.
I don't care how many people tell me he was 'clean' whilst playing, I believe what my eyes saw and I have absolutely no doubt he 'took' something at half time.
What it was I have no idea.
And before there is a response about how 'clean' tha game is because of the few 'positive' tests that have been reported, I merely point out that Cousins, so drug addicted that he's required numerous stays in rehab over the past few years, never tested 'positive' to the AFL drug tests.
That pretty much says it all to me.
Even when he fronted up completely shaven for a 'hair drug test' before being allowed to play again was surely enough for anybody to work out that the AFL's recreational drug testing regime is designed to catch pure morons or fools only.
They should scrap it as it's a complete waste of time, effort and money.
I happened to be at a party on New Years Eve with a committee member from another club who stated categorically that there is a high profile player who has tested positive at least 3 times and that most within AFL circles know about it.
But he's still playing.
Seems you have to be a rookie or an ordinary player to feel the 'wrath' of the AFL in this area.

Mr Magic, I saw that game too, and pointed Cousins out to people around me early in the last quarter that Judd could barely break from stoppages, Harvey was stuffed, and everyone else was battling to get through the game and yet Cousins was running twice as fast as every player on the ground except Kerr, who was marginally below Cousins' energy levels. It was unbelievable - like watching the Pakistani cricket team in Sydney a couple of years ago. - something wasn't quite right with this picture.
I was convinced at that moment that he was on something, as was Kerr, and as you know, it was some months before the Sh%%* hit the fan.
As to the 1992 Eagles team, well, just about everyone has a similar opinion on that. You can't increase your body mass and your endurance by 50% in a single pre-season. The normal equation is endurance up, body mass down.
There's also the curious and spectacular endurance of the bombers in 2000. I watched a few of their games that year and clearly their endurance was at least 30% better than the next best team. Other teams were gasping for breath while Essendon players looked completely fresh at all times. Once again, it cannot naturally be achieved over a single pre-season by an entire playing group. My guess was EPO, which I believe was not being tested at the time.

By that logic people should be curious of our 2004 run or 2009 after we fell into 4th spot in 2008.... As for Cousins playin like a super human after half time that is nothing un common the bloke was the fittest player in the comp he was such a good player because like Harvey in the 90's he could keep on coming when others were getting tired lots of players come out of half time with their second wind I very very highly doubt any player has taken a recreational drug at half time of an afl game
The reason Cousins never got caught was because he took his drugs at nightclubs and parties not on game day and the drugs he took were flushed out of his system by the time he was getting tested .. As for Kerr he was more into the types of drugs to put you asleep (horse tranq Valium ) hardly going to help him win the footy ...
If you have ever seen some one under the influence of drugs you will quickly see that decision making skills , accuracy ,calmness, skill and motivation are not strong attributes of the person on the drugs so to think it would help a player become better is misguided

Who in the eagles 92 team increased their body mass by 50%???? the team went through the preseason from hell in 92 ask scotty Watters how hard 92 was compared with 91 ... The team saw how close they were in 91 to getting the flag and put in the extra yards .. 92 also saw many of the eagles players hit their peak age bracket where they finally grow into their body ..... This year Sippos looks like he has added lots of mass to his frame are we going to accuse him of being on the juice ???

The testing certainly isnt a waste of time. Even if they only catch morons it is better than nothing. Also cant have anyone having 3 strikes and still playing. Surely you have seen the leaking in the AFL over the years. If someone was on 3 strikes the papers would know as would half the general public.

All people go out to unwind from work.
Most people enjoy alcohol. Beer is a popular choice.
Beer puts on weight. While instead of putting on weight to 'unwind' Cousins is on hard drugs. Doesn't eat and get supremely lean once he is finished his bender.
Is this substitute considered performance enhancing? I believe so.

Name me one person on speed , coke meth or Ice who could hit a target by foot who could make clever decisions under pressure that could keep their mind clear to be effective on a footy field ... There is a reason the cops now test for drugged drivers .. Yes some drugs give energy to the users but it is wasted energy because the brain function to use that energy to advantage is compromised ... See a person on ice and ask them to run in a straight line and then you will see it is very very unlikey to be on the drug while playing top class footySt Loxton wrote:Different drugs have different effects.st_Trav_ofWA wrote: If you have ever seen some one under the influence of drugs you will quickly see that decision making skills , accuracy ,calmness, skill and motivation are not strong attributes of the person on the drugs so to think it would help a player become better is misguided

All drugs can be generally classed into two catogories: Stimulants and depressants.
Stimulants, like ice and speed, "stimulate" the central nervous system and increase the amount of information that can be passed from the CNS to the brain per second, as well as increasing energy levels and giving more endurance and resistance to fatigue. In the short term, anyway. Long term they just cause brain damage.
Depressants, eg. alcohol, weed, heroin, slow down the amount of information passed.
Someone who is high on a stimulant and playing a sport has a definite advantage over someone who is not.

Obviously .... Really I can understand the stereotype that other clubs supporters have of our supporters we can't accept other teams have been better than us we have to hang on to "well they cheated" or " the umps have it in for us "kosifantutti23 wrote:every premiership team since '67 has been on the juice.st_Trav_ofWA wrote:Who in the eagles 92 team increased their body mass by 50%???? the team went through the preseason from hell in 92 ask scotty Watters how hard 92 was compared with 91 ... No need to bag saints fans coz all supporter bases have fans that use those excuses. hungry makes a valid and scientific point without being agressive in his argument. of course that doesnt mean the weagles won in 06 as they were all high.st_Trav_ofWA wrote:Obviously .... I disagree every person I have ever seen on speed yes does have lots of energy but also the attention span of a 4 year old and lack any co-ordination to possibly play AFL at any level ..
