I'd love to think we could but I highly doubt it. I hope I am proven wrong.

If we market it correctly itis achievable but we have to activly persue members and convince them thereis benefit to being a member not just sit back and hope it happens ... The club can't shut out members and expect to grow they have to look beyond the square interstate membership is ripe for growth .. International membership can be pushed there are untapped markets the club can actively market towards but it's not easy and it's not cheap so it is not likely to happen .. It is achievable to get 50k members given the amount of supporters we have but the clubs gotta work to get it there

anybody remember the night grand final 96 - dwarfed the number of carlton supporters at the game and the numbers of richmond supporters who had turned out a couple of years before for their night grand final in 93 - a supposed big four club - we had possibly 60,000 of our own supporters there that night!
likewise the support for us against north in the 97 prelim in a huge crowd was very one-sided as well.
I also remember a very well supported final against Melbourne in 98 with 88,000 plus supporters at that game too.
Most of our supporters live on the Frankston and Cranbourne/Pakenham train lines, with strong support along the Sandy rail line too. Getting to Docklands/MCG for games is a bit more of a mission for people who live towards the end of those lines, however I reckon two things could help with the club achieving 50,000 members;
attacking football and an up and coming group of youngsters to build excitement.

We have the numbers, we just have an incredibly lazy support base.
They won't even go to matches at the MCG despite it being much easier to get to for many of our fans in our traditional areas.
40,000 would be a good result.
Ross Lyon's uber defensive style killed off most of the enthusiasm among those bandwagoner types who make the difference between 35,000 and the 50,000 we dream off.

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

Of course we will!
Riewoldt is better than J.Brown,Carey and Royce Hart put together.
Lyon was the Messiah BUT Watters is better.
Milne is the greatest small forward ever!
How do I know all this?
Iread Saintsational whilst waiting for Santa and the Easter Bunny to bring Elvis back from 7/11!

Membership numbers are as dodgy as the Carlton salary cap.
We include those 3 game memberships.
Some clubs include pet memberships.
They should only count full home game (or better) memberships.

The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.
They can even WATCH LIVE FOOTY!

The official AFL figures only use the same type of memberships for all clubs. 3 game memberships are included but they give a breakdown of all membership categories.Enrico_Misso wrote:Membership numbers are as dodgy as the Carlton salary cap.

Hawthorn won 5 premierships in 10 years and 8 in 20, plus were dominant over an extended period 1983 - 91, and high school kids growing up then are buying memberships - plus the Flag they pinched in 08 helps - that's how.
Same reason as why Richmond have such a large supporter base.
I expect North's membership figures to improve once kids growing up in the late 90s are old enough to buy their own memberships (which is soon)
If we had managed to pluck even the one Flag from our grand final attempts our membership tally would have improved significantly. There are a lot of St Kilda supporters around.

So you think an interstate member who will only get to see the team once a year should not be counted as a member unless they pay for and waste a full 11 game membership ?Enrico_Misso wrote:Membership numbers are as dodgy as the Carlton salary cap.
