Yep because the guy was always going to be a star. That is why he was rookie that any club could have got. Or we can whinge and feel worse about it but still nothing happens.True Believer wrote:Perhaps Plunger66 can tell us all how this is OK and we should look the other way and not worry about it?
We should keep our focus on us, that will win us a flag, not worrying about how others are AFL sanctioned cheats.

The issue here, as discussed in a previous thread, is that the AFL have clearly waived the rules for their b@stard son Sydney.
They clearly viewed getting this Son of Rugby-gun as a potential marketing lever.
But if we had asked for them to overlook some paperwork lapses would they be so accommodating?

The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.

oh so its ok if I cheat in an exam as long as no one is really hurt?
And lol at the AFL investigating itself...
IF you work from a starting point the AFL is a corrupt self serving bunch of crooks, filled with greedy bastards who you wouldn't piss on of they were on fire and work back from their, your blood pressure will be a lot better of.
At least it's better than poor old schwabby who apparently was a good fella despite dying after imbuing drugs and shagging hookers in sydney on a 'AFL research trip'. That is the standard I think of, when I think of AFL commissioners.

They make the rules so they can break the rules. If you don't like it then go and follow another sport. Get over it

It seems obvious that Sydney were the only team that were going to recruit Jack that year but he wasn't eligible for the draft.
Who knows what would have happened if the AFL had stuck to their rules. Jack might have starred in whatever comp he was playing in and been noticed by other clubs or he might have chucked it all in and gone back to rugby.

Not entirely correct, by only nominating for the rookie draft, NO OTHER CLUB could touch him as Sydney had first dibs to all NSW registered players in the rookie draft. A complete snow job and blatant cheatingplugger66 wrote:Yep because the guy was always going to be a star. That is why he was rookie that any club could have got. I'm arguing that the AFL is untrustworthy, your arguement is that I'm corrupt so its ok if the AFL is corrupt?
why not institutionalise corruption?

The problem here is that no other club had access to him. He did not nominate for the draft only the rookie draft meaning that if we had wanted to draft him we couldn't. They broke the rules to hide a player from the draft and have now been caught out doing it and the AFL has simply turned around and basically said the rules don't count for the Swans.
It is a disgraceful call by the AFL but it is really only to be expected.

So the AFL bends the rules to help the Swans. So what else is new? It's been going on for the best part of three decades. The AFL still believes - despite the mountain of evidence to the contrary - that the Swans are a key beachhead in their campaign to conquer Sydney for the AFL cause.
In truth, the Swans are a minor feature of Sydney sporting life, as are the Storm in Melbourne (and, all in all, the Storm are arguably the more successful of the two clubs). Both are mainly supported by people who have relocated to Sydney/Melbourne from places where AFL/League are major sports.
Now we are going to have the GWS as well. This at a time when the Swans are in a period of declining membership and revenue. How is this going to work? No doubt the AFL will bend every rule possible to deliver the GWS a premiership asap. I still don't think it will help much.

I know you come from Sydney or at least lived there but arent the Swans crowds as good if not better than any RL club in Sydney. Yes a few may be relocated melbourne people but surely most are Sydney people. Also i dont think you are taking into account the importance of Sydney in the TV rights. They are worth a fortune to the AFL because of this. Biggest market in Australia by a fair way so even converting a small % is worth a huge amount to the AFL which inturn means the poorer Victorian clubs survive. As much as we dont want to admit we are in the bottom half of Victorian clubs. Obviously not as bad as the Dogs and North but we are in for a bumpy ride in the next few years and that will tell us where we stand.meher baba wrote:So the AFL bends the rules to help the Swans. Yes the AFL bend over backwards to help the Northern states but I suggest in a funny way that also helps clubs like ours.

I don't get what all the fuss is about only one club showed interest in him and that was Sydney .. It was not like other clubs invited him to draft camp it's not like other clubs were going to pick him in the actual draft either .... This is a case of bad management of the paperwork nothing more ... It's not cheating there is no cover up just a kid who didn't put his paperwork in on time ...there are much much more dodgy dealings in regards to the draft that go on then this

no...it was a case of the afl getting a young kid to swear a false stat dec.....saying that his papers were lost in the mail....later, both he and his father said they never sent any papers and that the stat dec was filed out on the instructions of the afl......if that is the truth...a crime has been committed...and the afl officials were complicit in its commission.....swearing a false stat dec can earn you gaol time as the courts frown on such things....st_Trav_ofWA wrote:I don't get what all the fuss is about only one club showed interest in him and that was Sydney ..
