And on ability, I would have Paul Dodd before Bob Murray also. For those youngsters out there that dont remember him, he was a brilliant rover, so good that they selected three rovers for the Victorian team, Bob Skilton, Allan Aylett, and Paul Dodd. But unfortunately Alan Kiligrew pushed Dodd to play when injured, and it ended up finishing his career.

To answer Mr Magic's earliuer query, Neil Roberts was No.10, Eric Guy was 19, Brian Gleeson 18 I believe, and Bill Young may have been 5, I am not sure on that one.
Roberts and Gleeson and Guy would all be the best Saints for their number. When Goddard ever gets close to a Brownlow I might put him in before Brian Gleeson.

Wasn't Brian Gleeson #30?borderbarry wrote: Brian Gleeson 18 I believe, and Bill Young may have been 5, I am not sure on that one.

I can remember Roger wearing his number on his back as a little tacker, then he wore #10 Neil Roberts number...... strange Roger must have had some liking for Chas medalists as a little kid.
Think you'll find Bill Young was #15, if my memory serves me correctly.

Here's a few players in bigger numbers for consideration...
29 Russell Greene - Traded to Hawthorn at the height of his powers.
30 Brian Gleeson - Gun player in the late 50's.
31 Jamie Shanahan - If you can forgive the 97 GF.
32 Robbie Mad Dog Muir - Clinically insane but a damn good footballer.
33 Jimmy Gwilt - Will play another 100 for the Saints.
34 Jayson Daniels - Great ball getter but possibly the worst kick ever to play for the club.
35 Rodney Harvey?
36 Gordon Fode - Built like Tarzan... Had the odd day out.
37 Dean Rice - State player on a wing before we lost him to Carlton.
38 Clint Jones - Has made the most of what talent he's got.
39 Bill Mildenhall - Better known as a basketball ref?
40 Troy Schwarze? Surely not?
Best over 40...
42 Wayne judson - Tough, skilful little back pocket - state player.
44 The Mighty Milney.
47 Michael Nettlefold - Not much good until it rained but suddenly turned into a decent player when provided with a good quagmire.
52 Dale Kickett - Only played a handful of games with us but was a very talented player. Did better later on at Fremantle.

Harold Bray was a fair player (not that I saw him!). Three times in the top 3 of the Brownlow. First played in number 31, then in 12.
Still alive at 91 if Wikipedia can be believed. I thought he'd passed away, but hope that is not the case.

He couldn't kick it as far, but I really rated Bill McCubin in the beloved #2.
