Photos/NZ incident not enough?plugger66 wrote:Is that based on anything at all you know about Zac or that he left a club that needed to lose him to get inside the salary cap.whiskers3614 wrote:and character!

You are joking about the photos surely. I take it you have never been a footy trip. I actually think Rhys and Jack are good characters or arent they either?whiskers3614 wrote:Photos/NZ incident not enough?plugger66 wrote:Is that based on anything at all you know about Zac or that he left a club that needed to lose him to get inside the salary cap.whiskers3614 wrote:and character!

Cant remember him being to much of a peanut on the ground apart from a couple of silly reports. Even Lenny has dont that. Off the ground the photos were absolutely nothing and he was the least involved in the stupid NZ incident. Seems like a pretty ordinary guy to me.whiskers3614 wrote:Some players are peanuts off the field but great players despite this(Ablett snr/J.Nicholls?)Unfortunately Dawson behaved like a peanut both on/off field (IMHO)

Yep that was silly. But really to mention him in the same breath as Ablett and Nicolls off the field is a bit much. Sorry but I just cant stand how our ex players become either worse players or worse people the moment they leave the club especially as this guy didnt really have a lot of choice due to salary cap pressure.dcstkfc wrote:There was that silly Robert Walls tweet that didn't do Zac any favoursplugger66 wrote:Cant remember him being to much of a peanut on the ground apart from a couple of silly reports. Fair point, although admittedly many didn't like Zac when he WAS at St Kilda.plugger66 wrote:Yep that was silly. That is true and if they were the same people commenting that would be fair enough. I am unsure if it is the same people though.dcstkfc wrote:Fair point, although admittedly many didn't like Zac when he WAS at St Kilda.plugger66 wrote:Yep that was silly. I thought he did pretty well for us. It's a tough job.
One thing I am sure of is that he will give his all against us, so the haters should prepare to hate him more. He will either get brownlow votes or reported . Or both.

Never was a rap for either him or Lyon so I suppose there is a sense of vindication when they go in less than perfect circumstances. On the other hand I have always supported and continue to support Luke Ball even though he left.Have you never disliked someone for no particular reason and felt a sense of vindication when they do stuff up ,Plugger?
Riewoldt and Goddard to live up to their reputations ,Clarke and Ray to defy theirs in 2012!
I never dislike guys who start with us and usually dont dislike guys who end up playing with us Brian Wilson aside. I certainly never care if they leave us for any reason whether it is money opportunity or sacked. And I dont hate anyone playing AFL footy.whiskers3614 wrote:Never was a rap for either him or Lyon so I suppose there is a sense of vindication when they go in less than perfect circumstances. On the other hand I have always supported and continue to support Luke Ball even though he left.Have you never disliked someone for no particular reason and felt a sense of vindication when they do stuff up ,Plugger?
I actually hated Karl Zedero at school because he pinched my shoes one day.

He played his role in a well drilled back 6. Full backs are hard to come by and whilst he was far from elite he did okay for us. I'm not sad to see him go as it presents an opportunity to get someone else developed in that position who could be better. He didn't want to stay for low coin is my take on it and if that's right glad he pissed off. He was serviceable but no champ. I'm ready for another similar to Spud or Max.

Why would I dislike him if we got him. I have said it would be a stupid thing to do. I have never said I dislike the bloke. Seems like a good guy actually who does silly things. The problem is he is a local footballer trying to play AFL footy.whiskers3614 wrote:So Plugger you would't dislike Fevola if SAints were silly enough to sign him?

Unfortunately this is a by-product of social media - people get warped views of individuals and bias perspective on events then exercise their civil right to write regardless of the facts - to er is human.SaintPav wrote:How can someone dislike a person so intensely when you don't even know them personally or have hardly had any one on one interaction that person?
It makes no sense.
I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

Zac leaving will not hinder us in any way, shape or form.
Every time Zac missed a game in '09 and '10 you never even noticed he was gone. The backline functioned perfectly well without him.
Yes, he didn't often have bags kicked on him, BUT there WERE occasions when he did, and he was playing in the best team-defensive structure the modern era has known. Yet still, opposition forwards were able to isolate him and get a hold of him. Watch the GF's against Collingwood and also the home and away matches against them last year. They isolated Dawson. Every time they went forward they looked for the one-out vs Dawson, and were able to exploit his lack of one-on-one skill.
Didn't you get sick and tired of seeing him give away scragging free kicks due to lack of awareness, or being out-muscled and out-positioned by stronger, more skillful players?
He had a very good year in '09 when he was fighting for his spot but since the beginning of '10 he's looked to me lazy and laconical and didn't show the desperation required.
Sure, the player who replaces him, lets say, Simpkin, for instance, might have the same statistical on-field impact as Dawson may have had, but I'd rather see someone with who isn't as, sorry to be harsh but the only word I can think of is "moronic", as Zac, someone with a bit of nous who has more upside and doesn't sap team morale with regular blunders that are below AFL standard.
Having said all that I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if he improves at Fremantle with a new mindset and fresh start and becomes a servicable full-back in the next year or two, but he will never be the kind of full-back that you really want in your side.

"Too big, too strong, too whatever."
It was happening long before social media was even a term. It's a by-product of wanting "your team" to be the best.PJ wrote:Unfortunately this is a by-product of social media - people get warped views of individuals and bias perspective on events then exercise their civil right to write regardless of the facts - to er is human.SaintPav wrote:How can someone dislike a person so intensely when you don't even know them personally or have hardly had any one on one interaction that person?

Good point, did anyone notice he had red hair so he wouldn't have any friends anyway.hungry for a premiership wrote:Zac leaving will not hinder us in any way, shape or form.

I wasn't able to put my finger on why he was no good but it must have been his acute moronitis.

He certainly would be one of the less talented players for fullback that the club has had in my time of following the club.Moccha wrote:In all fairness, he is not a good fullback whether St.Kilda needed him or not. A good full back is Scarlett, actually he is great and Dawson is light years away in ability. It's got nothing to do with Dawson's character but a lot to do with his inability as a footballer, he is actually a crap fullback. I'm glad we can develop someone else there.

yeah, and apart from Max, we have had so many wonderful fullbacks.Team Tommy wrote:He certainly would be one of the less talented players for fullback that the club has had in my time of following the club.Moccha wrote:In all fairness, he is not a good fullback whether St.Kilda needed him or not. Max, Danny and Zac were all very similar types.
