Apparently back at the club as match day runner. Someone mentioned it on TrueSainters and someone else mentioned it on BigFooty.

From BigFooty
He can only play a handful of games for barwon heads this season due to his running duties with the saints.

OMG!!! I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVED Tony Brown back when I was a teen. I was always a Saints fan, but the day he came to my high school* for a sports day it was love at first sight and I actually attended more games and bought a membership ever since.

*Just to clarify, no, there was no KD action at this visit.

Ahhh Tony Brown.

Flashback to '97 when we had our young brigade, who were my heroes, of plain named guns: Brown, Smith (Joel) and Jones (aus).

good times!

He wasn't excatly the most gifted athlete in the world, Brown, but was definitely a very smart footballer

I asked this a few months ago…

What happened to his career with us?

Seemed to finish up pretty young, from what I remember he was a decent player?

Tony taught my son a couple of years ago, a damned good teacher and you could not find a nicer bloke; it's fantastic to have Tony Brown back at the Saints!

Just on that note, I think it's great that we're getting some of our ex players wanting to come back and get involved with the club again, with Tony, Maxy and Sammy returning to the fold.....

From what I remember he was a very good in & under type but ordinary foot skills. A casulity of the Tim Watson era, with the loss of a couple of players & others injured he couldn't carry the midfield load, and lost form like others and lost his spot.

Not sure, but was used in a similar fashion to those citylink/VicRoads vans that push you out of the way when you break down !!

Tim Watson happened to it. Browny was very good from a young age and had a terrific 1997, when he was only 20, being an integral part of our midfield and our campaign that led to a GF. He got a lot of the ball and also kicked his fair share of goals. By 22 he had played 100 games (very rare for anyone to do) but then Watson came along and was committed to rotating those in the midfield in other positions and it killed off Browny, as he was only suited to playing in the guts. So Watson moved him to other areas, or on the bench and he lost his form and by the middle of the 99 or 2000 season Browny found himself in the magoos, despite the fact he was primed to enter the best phase of his already good career.
So we had someone who easily had the ability to play 200+ games finished by about the age of 23, when we could have just been a bit more flexible and built the midfield around him being in there.
His kicking wasn't great, but it was adequate and certainly not like CJ or Jack Daniels, for instance. His main "weakness" was that he wasn't suited to playing anywhere other than centre and wasn't super-quick, but I doubt that would have been an issue had Alves (or anyone else, that didn't want to move him) continued coaching us. The game had not sped up enough by that point for his speed to have been that much of an issue. 4 or 5 years later may have been a different story, but it wasn't 4 or 5 years later by that point.
