Donations for Webhosting Costs

Post: # 1176429Post battye »

Hi everyone,

As has been mentioned in a couple of threads, the term with the current webhost expires early next year and we are looking to move to a new webhost in order to reduce (and hopefully eliminate) the long periods of downtime we have intermittently experienced with the current provider.

The funds raised from the previous webhosting drive have almost expired (there is $45 remaining). We are running another webhosting drive which will hopefully will raise enough to last several years, as the last one did :)
Webhosting options are still being investigated, but we are looking at around the $30 per month range (possibly more if we need to upgrade to a higher package).

Like last time, there is no obligation to donate and donations of any size are welcome. Mr Magic has kindly offered to collect the money again :)

Mr Magic's payment details are:
Cheque/cash - mail to P.O. Box 2078, Brighton North, Vic 3186
Visa/Mastercard - pm Mr Magic card number and expiry date
Direct Deposit - BSB 733 095 Account #517122
Mr Magic has asked that any person wishing to use direct deposit posts a message here or contacts him via PM so he is able to match up the deposits.

Thanks

nah, as soon as you start taking advertising it becomes a business and then you'd have to start complying with all sorts of regulation shiz including gst. also someone would have to manage the advertising sales/renewals/implementation. way more effort than required for our little forum.

cash deposited under bergholt, mm, thanks.

With Direct Deposit, is there an account name? Or is that not required when making a payment?

Not required as long as you use the correct BSB and Account #

Battye, did you read the post on the other thread that stated that we would continue to have problems whilst we were on a $30 hosting plan, no matter who hosted the site?

That poster appeared to know his stuff.

I think we should know more about your intended plans before opening the door for donations.

It would be good to get a feeling for how much this will cost in total so one can work out what a typical voluntary levy might be??

There's no 'total' cost EM.

We just raise as much as possible (like last time which lasted a few years) and when the funds get low again, we repeat the process.

Happy to give HSVK - just trying to get the parameters.

Can you give us an idea how much you are looking for from regular posters.
e.g. If 100 people donated, would you be looking at
$10 each?
$20?
$30?
???

There's no set price per user we're looking at. Whatever anyone can contribute is welcomed. :)

I think we got just over $1000 last time and that lasted three years, so if we could get about the same and it lasts another three years I think that will be a fantastic result.

That would be around 11-12 months worth according to Battye's estimate. It would be great to see 2 yrs worth by Christmas !!
