Yes very much so. Most players would be getting less than $500 a game i reckon. Very good players may get 30k a year but not a hell of a lot.Spinner wrote:Some good coin out that way with Greenvale the other. My side of town.
I have no idea of VFL wages... But Scott Lucas was on $40k straight up in 2010. Is that more attractive than VFL?

It's crazy that suburban comps can get better players than the VFL.plugger66 wrote:Yes very much so. Most players would be getting less than $500 a game i reckon. Something is wrong. The VFL is the reserves comp, but could do with the odd has been AFL player (ie Bakes) to help with crowds/revenue.

The amount of training pretty much precludes older players from playin in the VFL, because they still need to get an income outside of footy. There is no incentive for a guy like Baker to play VFL.
As far as I know, Baker would have to be approved by the league, and may have to attend a hearing. But the ban is not automatic. Brodie Holland was a well known victim of this rule, as the EDFL wanted to prevent him from playing when he left Collingwood to take up a playing coach role with one of their clubs.

I thought it was a shame the Giants didn't take a closer look at him. he's still very mobile and as tough as nails. His exit from the Saints was quite appalling considering his input over all these years. Best of luck Bakes!
When they created LENNY HAYES (in the shadow of Harvs) they forgot to break the mold (again)- hence the Supremely Incredible Jack Steven!!

Is he not permitted to join another club because of his "record"? Or because he was retired? I now faintly remember there was some issues with him and any chance of a career at another club.

That maybe so, but hasn't Bakes been quite savvy working away in the background developing a career in bilding and wisely investing his money, so he wouldn't have to rely on footy for his income.saintspremiers wrote:So about 30K per year only. has some info on the de registration and tribunal history issue.
I would very much assume they would check, especially if paying him that amount..
I trust he's ok- I note he isn't at the madden medal tonight.

Bakes was slow, struggled to kick and never wanted to kick so I think this year was his last for a reason. He is not the first to have these issues in the twilight of a career and he will not be the last.St. Luke wrote:I thought it was a shame the Giants didn't take a closer look at him. he's still very mobile and as tough as nails. The Giants do not need him.
McQ is training with the Suns.......
Do they need a great 18th man on the field to play the customary run around the forward half tagging nobody and doing nothing role?
I would have thought not.

Now that I am old and know so much more, I know that I know so much about so little, and so little about so much.

I hope not, Ross seems to have followed gambling advice rather than take investment advice.ace wrote:Maybe he got investment advice from Ross Lyon.ozrulestrace wrote:That maybe so, but hasn't Bakes been quite savvy working away in the background developing a career in bilding and wisely investing his money, so he wouldn't have to rely on footy for his income.saintspremiers wrote:So about 30K per year only. Suns turfed Liddy and shunted Dan Harris so Mini's every chance of getting a gig. They can afford it.The Redeemer wrote:Bakes was slow, struggled to kick and never wanted to kick so I think this year was his last for a reason.
