Lyon a big drawcard for Freo-bound Dawson

Post: # 1179378Post Richter »

From: http://news.theage.com.au/breaking-news ... 1o51h.html
Fremantle recruit-in-waiting Zac Dawson says his strong relationship with ex-St Kilda coach Ross Lyon meant committing to the Dockers was an easy choice.......

.....Intriguingly, Dawson said the Saints' reduced offer, due to salary cap pressure, was not his sole reason for leaving.

He added he had no problem with new St Kilda coach Scott Watters, whom he met before making his decision.

"It was a few other things that I'd rather not talk about," Dawson said.

But, given the Saints gave him a second chance at an AFL career, he said he held more fond memories of the club than grudges.
Anybody know what he's talking about?

Saw his face on the news tonight in a dockers shirt, but wasn't in a position to listen.

He looked different, blonder maybe?

Anyways, at a guess Richter...maybe it was Pelchen that he didn't want to work with?

Whipping boy? By the club or fans?

Was Pelchen at the Hawks when he was canned there?

Anyway, sounds plausible.

I look forward to not having to defend him next year.

That's the thing I can understand if he's copping grief at the club (at his job) but by the fans....Maybe he reads Saintsational...LOL. You'd think most players cop it from the fans at one stage or another.

But are they willing to pay him 1 mill over 3 years? Madness if you ask me. I think in a poor defence he will be found out.

I always said we couldn't win a premiership with Zac in the team. Bring on 2012.

Yea if he's copped it from club its understandable. Interesting looking back that it wasnt long after his NZ incident that the offer on table was taken off.

This bit is interesting. Might not sound like much but as if Fremantle were keen on him before Ross got there. Everything still points to Ross being approached well and truly before they said (as was rumoured)
The defender, who recently quit the Saints after they offered him a reduced contract, said he was quickly contacted by Lyon and almost immediately pledged his future to the Dockers.

"Probably a day or two after that had gone down, I spoke to Ross and he said 'We're willing to give you another chance'," Dawson told reporters.

"They'd already been looking at me throughout the year, the recruiters.

Maybe that's why they want the AFL to take Phil Scully out of the salary cap

I thought so, but someone can correct me if it wasn't the case?

As for whipping boys, an extremely prehistoric concept IMO. I have never understood the motivation of fans ridiculing and/or abusing any player.

Unfortunately for Zac, not convinced there is a lot of love in waiting for him in WA, could even be worse as he finds himself at his third club by 25.

I don't think Pelchen has lost any sleep over Zac's departure.

Interesting point you make Thunder. Zac the steak knives in the deal?

and it all could just be the media picking up some hesitation and Looking for more of a reason than $$$
and as with many footballers who are not media savvy and speak before thinking -Zac realised they were leading him down the- 'well what went wrong track' rather than it just being the $$$.

not just fans sniping him- Walls....... etc- fresh start along with more $$$.

http://www.sportal.com.au/mediaplayer/a ... freo-11777

http://www.foxsports.com.au/AFL/dawson- ... =FoxSports

in video of interview he does say he has no problem with any person at the saints- and this may indicate that whilst it was mainly money a fresh start after all the ' guff' was a factor.-

Ross Lyon loves Zac Dawson because he's a brainless player who Ross can tell exactly what to do and know that Zac will follow his instructions without thought. That's the type of player Lyon likes.

Also, it appears Zac didn't even WANT to stay???

There can be absolutely no doubt we are better off without him in our side...

PS he wasn't delisted - he chose not to accept contract- understandable with reduced $$$- he was left of the list.

says it was on return after holidays that things changed.

He should have stayed so he could put up with the abuse a little longer. He was a dud and a traitor apparently.

Zac's a great kid. I loved having him as our FB and am devastated we lost him.

He definitely seems happier and more relaxed down at Freo. So for his sake I'm glad and wish him all the best.

Full video is here: http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/ ... fault.aspx

Thirty-seven!? - I reckon SOS would have warned Ross (or Zac) if there was any likelihood of GWS making a last-minute move.

I always said that about Trevor Barker. I guess we were both right.
