No more puff pieces on the Saints, no more expecting positive love to flow the clubs way anymore, no more favours, no more admiration for our players and officials.....

Well done to him on a great career. Regardless of what people on this forum say about him, I feel he was one of the journalists that were good at doing what they were supposed to do - getting to the bottom of stories and cutting through spin.

He wasn't right all the time, but I feel he was on the money more than most other journos.

Will be missed 'on the couch' most of all.

Like Michelle Gratten, was once the leader in their field in journalism, now just a sad sorry, past it joke.

Should have gone 10 years ago. Leave it to the likes of Jake Naill and greg Baum.

Wilson should follow

Lance or James??

There comes a point in every man's life when he has to say, "Enough is enough." For me, that time is now. I have been dealing with claims that I cheated and had an unfair advantage in <redacted>. Over the past three years, I have been subjected to a <redacted>investigation followed by <redacted> witch hunt. The toll this has taken on my family, and my work for <redacted>and on me leads me to where I am today – finished with this nonsense. (Oops just got a spontaneous errection <unredacted>)

Mike was good for footy because he got a response. I spent days arguing instead of working after reading his top 10 lists.

You could guarantee that he would put some s*** bag in it every year and year after year we took the bait.

Ultimately he was a footy lover and a very friendly bloke. All the best for retirement.

His recent work, which has included numerous hatchet jobs on the Saints, has made him about as relevant to good footy journalism as Scotty Palmer.

Keep punchin', Scotty!

Good Riddance

His recent current affairs opinion columns were better than anything he has written on football for ten years!

Great Journo who was fair in his articles. All the best to him in retirement.

The only sad thing about this news is that that bloated semi-illiterate alky Mark Robinson will probably be Senior footy editor now so even though Mike's irrelevant Top 50 will bite the dust, we'll all have to put up with Robbo's The Tackle given the gospel treatment. (phwoar)

Personally, I like Caroline Wilson's style, also Niall, Baum, Quayle, Hanlon, S&T Lane, Flanagan, and Murphy do a decent job for the other mob, but for the HeraldSun, it's really only Sam Edmund who I enjoy reading and that is more for his little quips than his journalism. The rest are an absolute shower.

Let's not even talk about Patrick Smith.

What happened to Stephen Reilly at The Age? He was really good. Factual, which was a nice change.

As the Hollywood actress Tallulah Bankhead once said

"if you can't say something nice about someone, come and sit next to me"

Seriously, you lot: grow up. Sheehan was an A grade football journo. His retirement is a loss to the game.

Oh dearie me, he criticised the Sainters sometimes!! How dare he!! Outrageous bias, worse than the News of the World phone tapping: call the Press Council, call Media Watch.

Sheesh.

Sheesh.
plus uno.

He is fantastic 'On The Couch' and most of his articles are at the very least entertaining.

Grow up many of you. Newspapers are not and never will be 100% factual OMG OMG OMG?

I've been critical of Sheehan in the past for some specific things he's written, but over the journey he's been very good.

His footy articles were fine IMO - no better/no worsethan anyone else...

The top 50 was rubbish...which for somereason he thought people actually cared about...or took him seriously.

as far as rating players go

coaches and players are the best judges

then umpires

then Journos

Yep because players who dont watch other sides would get a great idea from the one or two times they play each year. Some Essendon players would probably think McGough would have been a top 50 player back when he won the Anzac medal. Whether you like it or not people did care where he had players otherwise it wouldnt have been news on stations he isnt involved in like SEN. Coaches would be the best to judge as they would see the most footy but I am pretty sure they arent going to do it as they coach.

Anyway he was an excellent journalist and I gather a pretty good bloke too which is quite important.

He belongs to an era of journalists that existed prior to the current gaggle of boys and girls who in many cases are nothing better than Hollywood Gossip Columnists and whose words owe more to ACA/Today Tonight than The Sporting Globe.

That new era was ushered in by Eddie McGuire who went on to show the new generation that great fame and riches could be had if you were prepared to get all “tabloidyâ€

You could tell from his articles that he absolutely loved footy. The passion came across.

Unfortunately, as he got more lauded for his work, the quality of that work declined.

Picked the right time to go IMO, whilst there was still shine in his star.
