The club recruiters used their judgement and it appears that they did a lot of research in preparation for this draft.
As I mentioned earlier a strong factor in selection was the character of the player.
Maybe they didn't like aspects of the KPP's available, maybe they just found that the kids we selected were simply too good to overlook - really fantastic kids who happened to be talented as well.
I trust them (now that they are not being overruled).

Armitage was seen as better than Frawley/Riewoldt in 2006 because we overlooked them, and we made the right call...
or
Cripps was taken ahead of Jack Darling in 2010..therefore we can suggest Cripps was the right call... on evidence, clearly not
In HINDSIGHT both were errors of judgement......and that is the point
Its just JUDGEMENT...Its hard to be sure who will make it at this stage....there is NO certainty that Seb Ross or Elton will make the grade...its just opinion. Elton is seen as lazy but physiacally gifted, Ross is slow....
To balance the argument
Was Luke Molan a better pick in 2001 than NDS???
It is good to use evidence to back up your claims ...
but is it valid when we have restructured the recruiting department so that an outside observer would not even recognise it as belonging to the same club. Sure John Beveridge is still there, but he is not the department any more. It is so much more now.
It always irked me that Grant Thomas was outed because he was preventing the club from bringing in specialists to perform tasks that he didn't want to relinquish, then Ross Lyon steps in and frequently overruled the recruiters to get his choices.
The club recruiting was recognised to be substandard and to their credit they went ahead and did something about it. It is an integrated approach where once we have the talent - we develop it - I am optimistic that this is cutting edge stuff we are entering into - not just catch-up
