Tonights reaction
After the draft tonight most people will be on 2 sides with the players drafted. There will be the ones who read a highlights profile and see a highlights video and say how good is this guy. I doubt any of those saying that will have seen more than one actual game.
And then there will be the others who will say why did we draft this thin weed with no skills who didnt even have a photo on the website.
There may be a small minority who say lets just give these guys time and put no pressure on them.
Which category will you fall into?

You have to trust the Club's "professionals." They work all year on finding the right players, using a very thorough approach. The trouble is, that being so young, it is difficult to predict how good they will be in a few years time - except for the "standouts."
I am in the category of giving them at least two years to come up to AFL standard, "and then play them," to find out whether they can/will make it or not. Then, judge them on their performance.

We've been linked with Kyal Horsley - played for Subiaco. 24 years old.DWOODROW wrote:For people like me who have been neglecting players available who are some of these mature bodies that are possibles. ??????shmic_s wrote:Give them time.
Although i think we will go for one or two older players who i would expect to play some part next year.
Also a number are training with us at the moment. Dowler, Magner, Marigliani, Casley.
Think we'll look at an older mid and tall backman.

Probably a good call but we could've taken Fev that year as well. If we had we might've won in 09.plugger66 wrote:Not ready to judge Lenny yet?dcstkfc wrote:I'll judge the merit of their selection in about 15 years time.

I'll be a bit more excited about any who are indigenous, because I think our club could benefit from a bit more of the excitement that these players have brought to the game of AFL.
I know it's racial stereotyping, but to my mind it's stereotyping based on the evidence of what I've seen happen to the game over the last 15-20 years.
Otherwise, I will just have an open mind, as I know zilch about anybody who is likely to be drafted unless they turn out to be recycled players a la Polo and Gamble last year.

So true but then I doubt we would have drawn 2010. I would rather the draw than winning one.dcstkfc wrote:Probably a good call but we could've taken Fev that year as well. On a related matter, how is the surface in the Olympic Park for the Draft?
League wouldn't want Jonathan Patton suffering an injury walking on the turf during a publicity shoot.

We could judge them all on their merits and play them when they are ready to play and there is a spot for them. Guessing whether its Rd 1 2012 or in 4 years time or never is as easy as guessing the $31Mill Tattslotto Super Draw numbers on News Years Eve !!

Can anyone fill me in on the case for not taking Magner? Seems like an excellent player to me.shmic_s wrote:We've been linked with Kyal Horsley - played for Subiaco. 24 years old.DWOODROW wrote:For people like me who have been neglecting players available who are some of these mature bodies that are possibles. ??????shmic_s wrote:Give them time.
