That's a relief Plugger. I thought for a moment that it was going to be - prone to leg fractures.plugger66 wrote:They have a couple of things in common. Slow and only work one way.SaintSimmo wrote:I hope we pick up Magner....could turn out a little like Michael Barlow

Dont think he would be training with us if he didnt have a defensive side to his bow.plugger66 wrote:Doubt he will do anything defensive.Saints94 wrote:doubt Magner will play as a defensive forward though.plugger66 wrote:Yep and so did Mini in the reserves.Saints94 wrote:and find the pill over 30 times a game...plugger66 wrote:They have a couple of things in common. Don't worry, Plugger has few nice things to say about our young guys coming through. Watching the VFL is not a great way to be certain that a player will have the ability to be an AFL quality player.Con Gorozidis wrote:harsh man plugs.plugger66 wrote:They have a couple of things in common. doesnt magner have exemplary tackling stats ib the vfl???
Silvagni looked ok but not an outstanding player. Barlow for a one way player looks great, I'd have him in a flash.
To be an AFL quality player you need a whole gamut of qualities such as self belief, talent, adaptability, durability and luck.
To dismiss someones career on having watched a hand full of games is a little harsh.
That first line is actually a complete lie. I have many good things to say about some of our young guys. Certainly more than most on here. As for Magner, he isnt one of our young guys. He doesnt play for our club. IMO I think he is slow and his defensive work is poor. I have seen him play probably 15 games over the last 2 years. I would think that is a reasonable amount to get an opinion. Can you tell me how many you have seen him play and what are his strengths and weaknesses?gringo wrote:Don't worry, Plugger has few nice things to say about our young guys coming through. We will have to wait until Thursday night to find that out I guess.Saints94 wrote:Is your source reliable?amusingname wrote:Very strong word that Danny Hughes will be picked up with a late pick in the national draft, a few other clubs want to get him as a rookie and may force our hand a bit. If his injuries are behind him he could be very good value as a medium forward.

Half forward flanker with a fair leap on him kicked 33 goals from 23 games in the WAFL. a better version of Eddy/Mcqualter that will actually do damage on the scoreboard.saintly wrote:IS Danny huges th e rookie that got delisted from melbourne?Saints94 wrote:Is your source reliable?amusingname wrote:Very strong word that Danny Hughes will be picked up with a late pick in the national draft, a few other clubs want to get him as a rookie and may force our hand a bit. 2011 Stats - Link attached

Looks good, is obviously very strong in the air. He topped the club marks for the year by a considerable margin. His forward pressure may not be one of his strong suits with less the 1 tackle per game. He kicked 33 goals & 26 points so he could improve his accuracy a little also.
Is the type of player we need however!

I can not find a single video of this Danny Hughes, seems to be an unknown.....might be another Pelchen special if we end up drafting him.

I remember his first game because of his dt score, which was quite reasonable. Seemed a player but then didnt play again and got delisted. There might be more to his story which is known, only using his delisting as my reasoning...SaintSimmo wrote:I can not find a single video of this Danny Hughes, seems to be an unknown.....might be another Pelchen special if we end up drafting him.

Must agree with you there plugger. He can get plenty of it, but is slow and doesn't do much with it.plugger66 wrote: As for Magner, he isnt one of our young guys. He doesnt play for our club. Much like Barlow. His kicking is pretty average and is not tagged for a reason...Bernard Shakey wrote:Must agree with you there plugger. This type news is what Im praying for.Macca82 wrote:Have word that Magner ran 6.30 for 2 km in the Time Trial on Saturday and is flying down at training. Very hard midfielder who certainly would add a bit to the saints midfield and help lenny out
IF.....massive IF....we can jag a cheap mid or 2 that has adequate quality and mature bod size to step into our rotations to ease the heat on our current top 4 mids.....that would be enormous and totally rejuvinate flag chances for mine......I just reckon our mid stocks are thinish...no I dont includes Grams/Rays etc,...
