FANTASTIC news.

Aaron Hamill was playing his own brand of the forward press before it was even invented.

Welcome back lads.

Like most Saints supporters, I was in fear of the Club imploding this year. However, with lots of grit and determination, the Club has lifted itself off the canvas and "we are now back on the horse" so to speak, with some great coaching appointments.

In the circumstances, we have done well not to lose any high profile players.

The focus will now move on to the most important people - those that put on the show ! Let's hope that we make some astute Draft picks, which I am more confident of doing this year, with Pelchen and others on board !

What was wrong with the panic and sacking model. It got us through a lot of years.

It's an outrage that we haven't sacked everybody involved with the current administration and started again. We should have had a spill and appointed Denis Pagan.

Perhaps there has been some very strong direction/leadership from the very top, for a change !

Great news - looking forward to the appointment of the final FT assistant coach, joining Laidley and Kingsley

Still wondering what Aaron has been doing since retiring. Anyone know?

Hope this is more about football than marketing for the members.

Lyon found it untenable to be working under Pelchen, but the fact is the club could not afford to continue with the Ross Lyon mantra of filing holes and recycling GOP's from other clubs. Did some of our best assistants from 2007 to 2010 leave because of Ross lyon? Did the Saints fail to get the very best assistants available in the last couple of years also because of Lyon and his footy philosophy regarding youth?

Whether Ross Lyon liked it or not, the St Kilda footy club needed to build our on field leaders for the next 10 years and the players that will play another 150-200 games from this point on. Players that will be with us long after Roo and Dal and BJ and Chips and Monty are gone. Did Ross expect us to give him in May what would essentially be a 5 year timeframe to do this?? Lyon didn't give a stuff about the legacy he'd leave after he was gone. And it was blatantly obvious throughout this year because we could see there was talent there, but no nurturing or game time or development had been planned for the next generation of players. As long as the team had wins on the board we were willing to go along with his mantra....in ross we trust crap!! If he cared about the St Kilda footy club, there should have been more opportunities for younger players in the last 3 years and especially in 2011.

The drafting in 2010 showed that Lyon was looking to the future!

It is highly likely IMO or at least a distinct possibility Lyon did not play Walsh in 2010 because with his Sydney connections word had filtered through to him Walsh was already committed to leaving and did not want to give game time to a player that had already decided to leave!

Who cares?? That's one player only and you're talking about this year only??

My point is that Ross Lyon failed to get us a flag with his mantra of GOP. Nearly getting there doesn't cut it. If he wanted to go all or nothing and it succeeded then we'd be happy with whatever method got the results and I'd shut up...Now it's your turn...stfu about Ross...He only gave a sh1t about himself

Might have been more likely that Ross knew he wasn't going to be there and may have been looking after his Sydney mates..in any case he stuffed up with Walsh...should have played him at least a half a dozen times..hoping he proves to be a flop..any sort of success with Sydney will give me the shytes !!

Aaron Hamil is a natural born person of awesomeness. He had a vibe on the footy field that was hard to match.

Does he start in 2 weeks?

Lyon was all about statistical data, and an emphasis on results, actions, bubbles and other such abstract bullsh1t. Straight away with Watters we are noticing a shift away from all the cliche's, and a focus on people and the character and values these key people bring to the Saints.

No one will ever know if we would've won the ultimate with Max playing instead of Dawson, or if Luke was there with us in 2010 and not at the filth....but that's what irked me in the last few years with Lyon. He failed to judge the character of people like Maxxy and Bally and Tommy Walsh and he failed to understand that they could've made a difference.

We're getting the structures right and this will not only make a difference in the long term, but should also help with the whole club vibe being positive and perhaps we might even look forward to going to see our team play, rather than be cringing at most games with the thought of another Ross Lyons inspired 1 point agonisingly, excruciatingly close get out of jail win.

Coming from a man of such exemplary character as yourself, stinger, that is a damning assessment indeed.

Lets not forget guys we were one errant bounce away from premiership number two. Lyon was/is a good coach but had many faults.

Watters has me moist. His approach to the task and the appointments made, especially Aaron and Maxy, indicate that he is not going to be content midfielding the ladder.

2012 will be tough for us, but I can see in the following two years that we will again be the team to beat for the premiership.

Very happy with this. With respect to the fact that I may be 'going early' it is a far better coaching team than last year already in my opinion - although Watters is still to prove himself, of course.
Would love to see Ayres involved in some role.
