Great to see Maxy is back at the saints as defensive coach he is very highy regarded.
One of the best fullbacks in the league in his time will really put the final piece in the puzzle for the saints.
Great to see arron hamil as well, should have played longer is all heart.
Very pleased overall with all the appointments.

Err no. He put the final piece in the puzzle for Collingwood, teaching them how Ross Lyon's forward defence functioned.saint58 wrote:Great to see Maxy is back at the saints as defensive coach he is very highy regarded.

Collingwood used this knowledge to defeat St Kilda in the 2010 Grand Final.
Max made the difference between a Collingwood premiership and a St Kilda premiership.
Watters knows how valuable Max was to Collingwood that is why he has recruited him.
Max owes St Kilda a premiership!

Any love as a fan I had for Max went the day he helped Collingwood beat us in a Grand Final.
Considering the first Grand Final was a draw, the IP he and Ball provided certainly made the difference.
Good to have him back but I won't ever forget his mercenary act and if wanted to stick it up Lyon for not selecting him in the 2009 GF then he certainly did that but as a consequence it cost St kilda a premiership.
Whichever way you want to shake or spin it there is no getting away from that.

There was far more to our failure than that.ace wrote: He put the final piece in the puzzle for Collingwood, teaching them how Ross Lyon's forward defence functioned.
That for example is a soul destroying, game breaking, match losing moment from the captain.
Kick the goal and momentum and belief swing our way.
Get smothered in embarassing rookie type scenario and hope is completely blown from the heart of team.
Anyway.
WELCOME BACK MAX YOU ARE A BLOODY LEGEND. Glad to have you back.
What is dead may never die, but rises again harder and stronger.
Re: MAX IS BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wasn't that excited about him turning Nathan Brown into a mini-max either, but to say that it cost us a premiership is stretching it.barks4eva wrote:ace wrote:He put the final piece in the puzzle for Collingwood, teaching them how Ross Lyon's forward defence functioned.

Unfortunately GF2 was more of an indication of the gaps between the two sides in 2010.
GF1 had St Kilda almost pinch a granny on the back of some extraordinary efforts by no 7 and 18 and an 'off' day for Collingwood.

The IP that Max helped provide the filth with made them at least a five goal better team all year.
The fact that the first Grand Final was drawn against a team that is benefitting from IP from us ultimately was the only reason it even went to a replay.
Cost us the premiership without any doubt whatsoever!
Please, keep it real!
Re: MAX IS BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thats sad. Suck it up. Max was employed by an organisation and he professionally did what was needed by him. The love you had for him as a player is gone, got no more words to say when i read that.barks4eva wrote:Stretching it, seriously come on!!!!!!!!!!SainterK wrote:I wasn't that excited about him turning Nathan Brown into a mini-max either, but to say that it cost us a premiership is stretching it.barks4eva wrote:ace wrote:He put the final piece in the puzzle for Collingwood, teaching them how Ross Lyon's forward defence functioned.

Yes and no. The reason it went to a replay is the same reason that Geelong luckily got over us in 2009. They played all over us early, and due to luck, grand final nerves, relative inexperience, the door was left open for us, and like any good team, we opened that door. a bounce the other way or into Milne's hands, the flag may have been ours.
They beat us the next week for the simple reason that we ran out of fit players, and that's why when they got on top they were able to run away with it.
I bumped into Max the week leading up to the replay in a milk bar on Hampton St and he was very positive about the Saints, and hoped that the die hard St Kilda barrackers didn't think that he was disloyal, and that he would have preferred to have stayed at the club but he wasn't offered anything.
It was a great conversation and at the end of it when I said I couldn't wish him luck for the replay, he said "of course not, no way" and even asked if I had tickets for the game.
He is a true great St Kilda clubman and I don't think we should bagging him for losing a Grand Final, in which was, let's face it, a brilliant year for us on field, while shocking in many ways off it.
Welcome back MAX!

My opinion is that you are stretching it Barks.
Max helped their backmen, sure.
He and luke arriving to Collingwood didn't magically make guys like Pendlebury, Thomas, Swan, Cloke, and the likes elite.
So their forward pressure increased in 2010?
Well they had an offseason to model themselves on the 2009 version of Saints Footy.
...and instead of battlers and role players, the myth that the Pies didn't have the cattle was also busted in 2010.
We can all be bitter and jaded and say they won the premiership that should of belonged to St Kilda, however I'm a realist....Geelong won that one.

judas cost us more than just maxie......add ball, lynch and walsh ....plus a couple of young guns by drafting recycled hacks.....just pray to god he hasn't cost us our future.....Hammer wrote:Geez, you guy's are harsh.
Max was an awesome player who bled for the club.
He got pushed out by Ross Lying and went to another club and leart heaps, and is now back in the fold.

Yeah, we could've drafted an elite player with pick 103.stinger wrote:judas cost us more than just maxie......add ball, lynch and walsh ....plus a couple of young guns by drafting recycled hacks.....just pray to god he hasn't cost us our future.....Hammer wrote:Geez, you guy's are harsh.

I'm another who has lost their love for Max.... a real shame he was one of y favourites.
I just felt he acted like a petulant child after getting dropped by the player who had been in superior form all season and didn't have any injury issues.

I wasn't happy that Max went either but geez what actual behaviour are you talking about? Are there actually examples of this?Armoooo wrote:I'm another who has lost their love for Max.... a real shame he was one of y favourites.

Theres a few angles to consider ... the 'lyon promised to play zac' pre season agreement , max's structual viability , lyons lack of intuitive bravery or regard for club love and collingwoods smarts.
Lov ya max.

He's back. Sucked that he was apart of the enemy's flag win against us. Move on. Hopefully his premiership success can rub off on us. Always a Saint for mine, regardless of being at the filth and smiling when we lost- they won. Didn't like it but we are shaping up for another go in 2012. Welcome back Max and GO SAINTS!
