I found it strange he was delisted after he played 2/3 really good debut games at the end of the dons' years. He looked quite at home, kicked a goal or two, found the pill and his disposal did not strike me as poor.saintly wrote:you had better tell him, he needs to work very hard to impress.class of 2010 wrote:Marcus is my cousin, would've copped a fair bit of flac from me if he chose the filth over us! Now hopefully he impresses enough to get a rookie spot on our list
What went wrong with Dowler? Was it being behind Franklin/Roughead? Probably. He looked okay too from memory.

Got this from BF:
"Marligniani is a goal-kicking midfielder (something we're still missing).
Lourey and Dowler are both KPPs, something we're very short on ATM.
Magner is a big-bodied midfielder, while I don't know much about Hallahan"
I havent seen these guys play but Id be wrapt if we could find a mature bodied mid to go through our centre square to sure up depth and really help with rotations to take heat of our top 4 or so.....
For those who have seen them - can Mariagliani? Magner? cut it at AFL level?
How old are they?
Playing style/strength/weaknesses?

Make a good coach then ?Old Mate wrote:Don't like Dowler, his eyes are too close together. Untrustworthy IMO.evertonfc wrote:Very keen on Dowler.
196 cm / 88 kg.
"He started the season as a Noble Park forward but finished it superbly in the backline."
His issue is all about confidence and application. Ability is the least of his worries.
Maybe he's decided he wants an AFL career after all...

I think we're only talking about a rookie spot, not a senior selection like Gamble.Con Gorozidis wrote:if we are relying on beau dowler for improvement it will be no different as some people hoping gamble would be the great white hope in our fwd line last year.
these two blokes are simply not afl standard.
And I think some people suggesting he may be worth a rookie spot doesn't equate to anyone relying on him to improve. Hoping perhaps, as we do with any rookie.

I was hoping we'd take a punt on Dowler this time last year. He didn't perform too badly in his few chances at AFL level and his development was interrupted badly by injuries early in his career. Maybe he has finally found confidence in himself and could realise the potential that saw him go so high in the draft.
Considering our lack of talls he would surely be worth a shot. Unlike Gamble he isn't a known quantity. He has only played 16 games and averaged 15 touches and 5 marks in his last year. He also kicked 8 goals in his last 3 games before being delisted.

I have nothing against getting him as a Rookie. I am just saying people should keep it well inside their pants at this stage. He was given plenty of opportunties at the Hawks and they are not flush for KPPs. Remember they had a very short backline last season. Just being big doesnt make you any good.

Fair enough, but I'm not sure anyone's whipping it out anyway.Con Gorozidis wrote:I have nothing against getting him as a Rookie. "And Beau Dowler, sacked by Hawthorn 12 months ago, was granted permission to train with St Kilda.
The man who selected him at six in the 2005 national draft, Chris Pelchen, invited Dowler to train with the Saints ahead of the national draft.
Dowler is understood to have signed to play with Sandringham in the VFL next year and will train with the Saints in the pre-season. After being cut by Hawthorn he returned to play this year at his local club, Noble Park.
Recruited as a tall key forward, who impressed playing from the goal square in his under-age years, Dowler played better as a mobile defender in his 16 games with the Hawks."

Was it Dowler who kick 4 or 5 against the bombers in a final 2 years ago in the game where Lloyd took out Sewell. If it was ..he looked very good that day ..was there live

Rookies can be hit or miss as most would say- but one of the succesful ones for the saints is currently the topic of much dicussion around his wage...

Yep love this attitude that anyone who didn't have a good career was because they decided not to try as hard a they could.

It was Jarryd Allen. Zac played 23 games and Jarryd was injured for the whole season.saintbrat wrote:Rookies can be hit or miss as most would say- but one of the succesful ones for the saints is currently the topic of much dicussion around his wage...

Old enough to repaint, but young enough to sell

Not sure if it's been posted yet but Beau Dowler was interviewed on SEN this morning.
