Is he any good...i mean Pelchen had high hopes for him at the Hawks and he flopped

How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

he's obviously trying to resurrect his career by getting more exposure via VFL as opposed to EFL. Good luck to him. Can he play? He'll be ok in this comp I wld think.

From Footywire:
Beau Dowler
Games: 16 Born: December 16, 1987
Playing Height: 196cm Playing Weight: 88kg
Position: Defender, Forward
Last Drafted: Round 1, Pick #6 2005 National Draft

From Wikipedia:
He was originally from the Noble Park Football Club and then recruited from the TAC Cup side, Oakleigh Chargers in the U/18 competition. He played for Vic Metro, in the Teal Cup Championships and was named All-Australian.

Never quite cut the mustard at Hawthorn but obviously showed a bit of potential.

to be fair he had franklin, Roughhead, Thorp, Kennedy etc. all vying for a forward spot. I think they had a pretty settled line up and he was not good at getting his body right. i wouldn't mind having him close to see what he can do. He was an elite junior, that shouldn't disappear.

Leader newspapers say more about Beau here -
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/s ... 6187575011

"The Hawks let him go after he finished last year in the Box Hill Hawks reserves. Dowler spent this year at his
junior club, Noble Park, playing in a premiership.
He started the season as a Noble Park forward but finished it superbly in the backline."

And on Simon McPhee -

With Dowler being invited to Train with us, the coaches can have a good look at him both on and off-field. he wiill play a few practice matches, so the opportunity is at his feet. Could be a win for both parties.

Sandy's pre season started tonight..

big turnout of players....

Night started with Simon McPhee outlining his plans for the pre season...spoke of his experience at Claremont in an alignment situation with 10 or so Eagles players coming back each week to play with Claremont....his experince in an aligned club should be very beneficial...Jamie Graham then said a few words

Next up was a very interesting talk from Chris Pelchen..he reiterated the new level of co-operation that he's working on between the 2 clubs...even mentioned that the past couple of years alignment wise were obviously not good and in the main that was of the Saints doing..he stressed that there is going to be a virtually unprecedented level of co-operation between Sandy and the Saints...with Sandy getting access to the Seaford training facility on a regular basis...he seems very genuine

Next up was Scott Watters...spoke in glowing terms about Simon McPhee...how McPhee had turned down a job at the Eagles because he wanted to coach his own team...stressed that no player at St Kilda is guaranteed a game and expects the same at Sandy...you get a game on merit and nothing else

All in all it was a very positive meeting and the amount of Sandy volunteers and support staff that were there was an indication of hopefully how things will turn out next year on the field.

Time will tell of course but things are off to a very positive start

I hope they made sure everyone was out the open when that storm hit
I assume the players training with the saints did less this evening?

Arrivals/Departures/Signings ( From ZebMail)
Some good signings from the Zebs withformer Murray Bushranger captain
Brendan Allen signing for 2012.

Beau Dowler has also signed at Sandringham and is doing 5 weeks of pre-season training with St Kilda in hopes of reigniting an AFL career

The total number of 2011 listed Dragons boys training with us to over 15 – The Dragons/Zebs relationship continues to prosper which we are extremely happy about.

Michael Lourey, Mick Meehan, Peter Shakallis and Daniel Sands have all recommitted to the Zebs for 2012
Captain David Gallagher has also signed for what will be his tenth year at Sandy.
Brett Dore is still undecided on his footy for 2012

In departure news Matt Boland, Rob Cathcart, Madison Andrews, Rick Ferraro Matthew Wade and Sam McBain have all moved on from the Zebs. .
Andrews who won the Reserves B&F this year has gone back to play local football with Berwick and McBain has moved back to his junior club Beaumaris,
Cathcart, Boland & Ferraro have made the move to the Collingwood VFL list

Matt Wade has taken a playing/assistant coaching role with Tooradin.

2012 Practice Match Dates
