Chris Pelchen & Left Footers

Post: # 1172758Post Devilhead »

Everyone knows about Chris Pelchen's love for drafting left foot sided players - See Hawthorn Squad and draftees over the last 5 years

Can someone give a detailed rundown of left foot sided players in the draft??

Is Pelchen a one trick pony ....who knows???

What is it about left foot sided players that he loves ... balance and skill??

Either way this may give us a more accurate description of who we might actually draft

Would like to get Grigg. No one seems to know where he'll go. Some say top 15, some say he'll be around at 35. He is very slow by all reports, but has a good ball winning ability and a damaging kick. From what I can gather he plays a lot like Daniel Rich. Would be a good replacement for Lenny.

If he's there at 25, I hope we take him.

Yea this thread made me think of Grigg.

If Smith is avail at 25 we must get him, he will be a gun. He's an undersized player which may push him down the order however you'd still think he'll go in the top 20.

Doesn't surprise me. From what I've heard he's a quick and attacking midifeld/forward similar to Brent Harvey.

If we go after left footers lets hope they also have a right foot.

No but they might go around in circles like some of our left footers.

Valid point. Sadly at least two of our left footers (CJ and Gilbo) have absolutely no non-preferred side..they'll do anything to avoid using it...including getting stung cold for holding the ball,

No AFL player in 2012 can be totally and absolutely one sided. The games too quick now

You can throw in Hodge, Roughead, Rioli, Ladson, Ellis.

Of their listed players in their premiership year of 2008, they had 22 left footers i.e. half their list. It was more than half in their senior side.

It's an interesting comparison to look at the Essendon sides of the 80's/late 90's/early 00's . They, too, had a high number of left footers.

Con !!

You've got it a little bit mixed up.

Historically, CATHOLICS were known as "Left Footers" !!

McKenzie and Smith will both probably be gone by #25. Grigg is an interesting one....while he lacks pace and athleticism, he is a genuine footballer, magnificent kick, great skills and decision maker....could go anywhere from top 20 to our pick at 35....if he was there at 35, would say that we would think seriously at taking him. I would think though that we would be going for quicker types. Alex Woodward is one that I like that will go later in the draft. Very good decision maker in traffic.

Extra! Extra! Read all about it......no I don't want to read about it anymore!!!

I dont care if the recruits are left or right footers as long as they can cut the mustard at AFL level

How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

Absolutely agree with this 110%.

In this day and age I don't know why anyone would even say that.

Thanks Eastern. I suspect there are a few uses. This then reminds me of the famous Hawthorn practice match protestants versus catholics. Was that Alan Jeans or John Kennedy Sr ?
