Jackson Ferguson

Post: # 1171700Post Heidelberg_Saint »

Anyone able to shed any light on whether Jackson will be evavated to the Senior list come National Draft time? I'm sure he would figure as a fullback replacement for Zac. He's a good size, competes well and quick over the ground. Was "warehoused" late in '11 with shoulder surgery so hoping he could hit the ground running come 2012.

Pretty sure last year we knew Simpson would be evlavated prior to the Draft, then we used a late pick. Hoping this is the same for Ferguson this season.

Is Simpson Simpkin? Ferguson would be a great story if he became our full back from a nsw rookie list spot.

Apologies, (Tom) Simpkin, not Simpson.

JF is 194cm. With our current crisis with KPPs he looms as a precious commodity. Lets hope he comes on and becomes the new project/great white hope.

It's a legitimate shame that Gaertner has gone... Could have actually been a plausible long-term replacement at full-back...

From my understanding, isn't Fergusson more of a rebounding tall, ala Gilbert?

Smooth mover...let's hope the shoulder problem is behind him & he can add a bit more to the frame...one to watch.

Made an AFL list but yes hopeless. And this comes from someone having a go at others for having an opinion about another player. Anyway back to the topic. Jackson has huge potential but there isnt a reason in the world to upgrade him unless we think he will play early. Let him earn his stripes.

Did he make an AFL list P66???

Not sure I recall his promotion???

He played junior footy at edithvale/aspendale around the corner from me and went to school at St Bedes...with many fellas I know...many..

he got drafted because he was 199cm and could run like the wind....he used to mock other runners at athletic carnivals....for sheer athletisism he was up there with any player tested

Gaertner was overlooked in the 2007 draft even though he had this athletisism and size, because he was simply not very good...he wasnt even that good in his local team.....in 2008 his family hired a specialist skills coach to work with him ....and even though he was far from impressive at Dandy Stingrays as an overage player...
it was thought he was always going to get drafted. and hopefully he could develop in an afl environment

even then he overlooked....and only taken late in the rookie draft by stk as a project player.....

Most people who know Gaertner firstly could not believe he was drafted and secondly werent surprised when he pulled the pin....it was those who did not know him that were surprised he slipped so much in the draft....

Where do you reckon Gaertner is playing now????

Don't think any of that warrants labeling the young man a "pea heart".

Probably the same place as many other players. Doesnt make him hopeless. i am glad you know many at St Bedes. Not sure that means jack s*** though but again pumps up your tyres. My point is he made a list as a rookie so hopeless certainly isnt a word I would use. I gather you think you were a hopeless player?

Yeah, thats a bit tough.....but thats what the real opinion of him is....

harsh, but reality....and not just my opinion....actually I have no real opinion of him, other than...he couldnt handle the heat

AFL was just 'too hard' for him

Yep that is 100% true but to me that doesnt make him hopeless. It may apply to the guys who recruited him though.

Exactly how does knowing people who went to st bedes 'pump up my tyres'

its a school in my local area....so obviously I know ex students from there...

point was....that Gaertner went there..... and his ability is well known bayside

main differences between him and archer

archer
is on an afl list....gaertner never was
Archer was definitely NOT recruited due to his athletisism
Archer has played AFL footy....Gaertner did not
Gaertner Quit because he could not hack it......Archer did not
Archer is tough as f***

Archers main weakness
lack of athletisism

if both their careers dont pan out
one will play state league footy and do well
one will play local footy....

Can you read Dunlop because it seems you just make up things. You called the guy hopeless and a pea heart. I said he wasnt. Didnt mention Archer and didnt rate Gaertner. Now tell us who else you know at St Bedes. How will Liam Sumner go next year nad do you also rate Jet?

Sorry to get back on topic, but I wouldn't get my hopes up of Ferguson taking over from Zac in the immediate future. From what I've seen of him he makes Zac look well built and that's saying something.
Hopefully he's put on some muscle since I saw him earlier in the season, but he would need to put on a heap before letting him wander down in the direction of the Travis Clokes of the AFL.
To me he looked like "another" Gilbert; tall, thin, fast, athletic, so not sure he'll be playing key position any time soon. Looks very promising, though and I wouldn't mind us upgrading him if we believe he has the ability, unless we want to have Tommy mark 2 and let the Sydney sides have a crack at him in 12 months time, because we haven't given him a contract.

That too is a concern of mine, though somewhat eased by developments such as the Saints Academy etc

Mine's big folded. Cumbersome. Tiring.

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'
