Farren Ray to re-sign
ST KILDA midfielder Farren Ray has survived a Saints salary cap juggling act and looks certain to be offered a new contract.
Good on him for showing some spirit towards the club and his team mates

The question is what do we need to do to get the best out of him.
He has played a number of very good games but doesn't produce nearly often enough for my liking... he should be the a level or so below the very elite but still a primary player. Currently IMO he's a C grade player with the occasional good performance
What do ppl see as his role, best position etc

That's good news.,, Ray has his heart in the right place.
He was a very good player in his first year with us but was gradually Lyonised and morphed into a GORP (the R is for role)... averaging 5 less possessions per game.
With a bit of Wattering and nurturing he may floursish again... into a running
machine... who wont be chipping it backwards anymore - as RL's negative game plan heads west, Ray's form may now finally head north !.
There's a ray of hope now.

Farren Ray on $400K? Are you serious? Apparently no-one at Geelong, who have won 3 recent premierships, is on more than $550K, so that would be staggering, if true. If we've been over-paying like that on our contracts it's no wonder we're in such salary cap strife.lendog heaven wrote:evidently was on $400K - wonder what he's decided to accept - was very keen to stay - good on ya Fray! a very resilient lad and one we needed to hang on to.St Lenny wrote:Yah, at least Farren is not blinded by money........... I'd say clearly wing, half back flank, but when I did what I thought was our best team for next year, recently, I didn't manage to fit him into the 22, so he may have his work cut out for him. The likes of Cripps, Ledger, Winmar, Saad and Milera will hopefully all be putting pressure on for spots in the team. Raph and Ray may end up fighting for one spot.skeptic wrote: What do ppl see as his role, best position etc
Hopefully having to swallow a pay cut will be a bit of a wake-up call for him, though and will motivate him to play his very best footy for us, in which case he'll be good for us and play plenty of senior footy.

His tank is one of his strengths...St Loxton wrote:I see him as a hard running winger, he's a good overhead mark and puts his body on the line a bit.
If he can improve his tank to be able to find space all day on the wing/HFF i reckon he could hold his spot next year.
The competition for his spot is growing though.
One of the best runners at StK
His disposal is the biggest negative....
he was a consistent player 2009 and 2010......dropped form in 2011
20th in the B&F is not good enough for a player of his age/experience (25 and 140 odd games)
Yes he is a wingman/HB and can also do a run with.....very good overhead....and is bigger than most would think at over 6'1" and 85kg

He is good for 20 to 25 unexciting possessions per game, I would have kept Dwason over Faz but still like the way he goes about it. Strategically you would think a runner will push up the next year but fullbacks are harder o findBigMart wrote:One of the best runners at StK

Dont get me wrong here - but on bang for buck Roo was probably the worst performer in the AFL in 2011.
