i dont think we'll pick up anyone. were trying to free up money in the salary cap.Moccha wrote:Setanta?
He's probably better than Dawson. At least he has some physical presence
reality is we'll go for blake at FB. simpkin in the BP whilst gwilt is in recovery/reserves. once gwilt comes back we might use him at FB and simpkin in the pocket or vice verca.

lyon will keep giving him a chance. wonder what will happen to silvagni since he is playing the fullback for freo?dirtydog24 wrote:Spot on! Have never quite figured out how a player, a really ordinary one at that, who has so many 'red flags' off-field, could remain in the system and get chance after chance. On the Ball wrote:He will feel right at home in Northbridge.

The position he plays and the time these type players take to develop makes his value greater than his ability level.
Supply and Demand state that full backs with a mature body ( he is never going to be big just like Max was ) are not in abundance hence he can ask for bigger coin.
The issue we will have losing him is there is no ready made replacement to take this spot. Jimmy is a Leo Barry type undersized and coming back froman ACL, Fisher is a running CHB, Simpkins may well be a Dawson 3 years back. Blake has size but disposal isnot good enough. Many bag Dawson's disposal check out his kicking efficiency for the last few seasons.
many here will be glad a Zac became the whipping boy when rah was out but it will hurt mark my words.
the inability or unwillingness to make a trade in Trade week for a Gram/ray/Peake/Gilbert who are easier to replace has led to this position.
On ability 300K per year is well over however based on supply and demand it is probably not far off market value .

Agree M, if he doesn't want to stay around, then see ya.
If I remember correctly, his value right now would be nil if it was up to him, didn't he want to give it away?
Said all along that I thought one of him or Farren would walk to Freo, and was leaning towards it being Zac.
Watters may have some fresh ideas for the backline anyhow, I personally wouldn't mind seeing Stanley tried as a Ben Reid type of defender.

im not convinced that stanley could hold down a spot as a key defender
why? i dont know.
ive never seen him play down back and have no idea if he would be any good
i can see blakey getting the gig myself as he is not bad one on one imo
but you never know
they might throw someone in the spot completely from left field...and they might thrive.

I'm just thinking that given he has looked after Collingwoods backline, he may bring a bit of their style with him, and for mine Stanley could mould himself on Reid (especially given a position has arisen)matrix wrote:im not convinced that stanley could hold down a spot as a key defender

Without Gwilt, we aren't left with too many guys who could execute that kind of play. He could spoil with his quick closing speed, run away from the forwards once he takes possession...
I think under Lyon we were defence first, under Watters we may be a combo of defence/create?
That's why I'm looking forward to the NAB cup

I don't think we played hard ball, we were probably offered pick 71, maybe 58. Wasn't a huge loss to refuse those picks, Ross would have a fairly sound knowledge of our salary situation, and after missing out on Clark would have known that they could get Dawson for nothing in the draft with a juicy carrot…
