Zac Dawson rejects St Kilda's offer
"ZAC Dawson has rejected St Kilda's contract offer and is looking to rejoin former coach Ross Lyon at Fremantle via the pre-season draft.
The 25-year-old defender has told teammates he will quit, and the Dockers are believed to be willing to offer him a long-term deal on more than $300,000 a season.
The Saints could not alleviate their salary-cap worries during trade week, so they were forced to offer below-par contracts to several out-of-contract players."

Does our Cheer Squad have sperate values centred around marginalising particular players, or are you in a seperate faction known as the 'Jeer' squad.saintdooley wrote:1 down, 2 to go.
but seriously, 300k? The guy would be mad not to accept seeing as he is a joke and i am shocked he actually got an offer at all.
Fingers crossed he accepts.
I wish Ross Lyin would offer you $300k to promote 'club' values.

Because it is normal for one man to share the view of a whole group. Opinions are fine arent they? The Jeff wrote:Does our Cheer Squad have sperate values centred around marginalising particular players, or are you in a seperate faction known as the 'Jeer' squad.saintdooley wrote:1 down, 2 to go.

Because it is fine to label someone 'a joke' because of their football ability. Personal attacks are fine though aren't they?clarky449 wrote:Because it is normal for one man to share the view of a whole group. clearly freo weren't playing ball... figured he'd walk and they could get him in the pre-season draft - bet they didn't offer a draft pick earlier then something we won't use anyway
RL is quite the cut throat

Lyin probably would have had a meeting of some kind with Dawson and or his manager and told them he will gaurentee this and that and with Pelchan coming in who sacked him from Hawthorn and a new coach Zac couldnt be gaurenteed a spot at St Kilda.
Smart move from Lyin IMHO. Underhanded and dispicable but smart.
For all his precived faults and for all the BS heaped on him by some on this forum and in the wider footy community Dawson will be tough to replace in souch a pivotal position on the field. My vote would be for Jason Blake to hold down the spot short term while a new recruit or exisiting player is groomed for the spot.

Stanley could probably replace Dawson .. at least he'd be getting some game time that way.
Stanley would do no worse vs Cloke , for instance, who as we know just marks everything vs Zac one on one.

Well it will mean a little extra money for Ray etc.
Probably just as well Blake didn't retire, also, Gilbert could probably have a go down there as well.
Zac was a good reliable Full Back, but not a star like Scarlett, Fletcher etc.
He is replaceable.
Good luck to him, however don't think he'll be as happy in Freo.

Shame in my book.
Of course he had his limitations; was always nervous when he was one on one and was never subtle enough in a show of strength.
But he's a serviceable full back and, while the cap means we can't have a team of superstars, will be hard to replace.
His left boot which cops a bit of flack on here was actually a pretty reliable weapon and he was a selfless part of th defensve unit; ready to take a risk and peel off when needed.
Sorry to see him go.
