If you was coach

Post: # 1169115Post LENNY LEADS THE WAY »

If you was the coach of the saints in 2012 what positional changes would you make?

Schneider to a half back flank?
Fisher to centre half forward?
Goddard to Full Forward?
Riewold to the wing?

Firstly, I'd change the OP to read "If you were coach". :D

Secondly, I'd try Stanley at centre half back, maybe Saad and Milera on opposing wings, and Farren Ray on a half forward flank.

Goddard to CHF/FF.

We need to take the focus off Riewoldt and (IMO) cannot go into another season with him being the sole tall target.

Plus, Goddard needs the responsibility. We may yet hang on to him long term if he's given it.

Riewoldt to FF/CHF.

Kosi as a true second ruck, floating forward.

B: Dempster, Fisher, Dawson
HB: Gilbert, Gram, Dal
C: Peake, Hayes, Schneider
HF: Joey, Goddard, Ray
F: Saad, Roo, Milne

R: McEvoy, Steven, Jones

INT: Kosi, Armo, Clarke
SUB: Cripps

I'd also like to try Stanley in a Dustin Fletcher / Ben Reid type role.

Well you asked

I would have had a very different trade week. But from the players currently listed

B: Gwilt, Dawson, Dempster
HB: Gilbert, Blake, Fisher
C: Montagna, Hayes, Goddard
HF: Schneider, Riewoldt, Siposs
F: Milne, Koschitzke, Saad

Foll: McEvoy, Dal Santo, Steven
Int: Ledger, Ray, Armitage, Cripps

Siposs to play Ryan O'Keefe style role
Goddard to continue as a utility
Armitage a full time midfielder, first to come on when Lenny/Dal/Steven need a rest
Ray to swing forward occasionally
Saad to provide pressure and goals
Gilbert to be a tall midfield tagger against the likes of Judd/Goodes
Ledger adds to midfield rotations

Gram, Jones to Sandy. Raph needs to find some consistency before being considered a regular again. Cripps, Ledger get preference over Peake as long as form is ok.

I would stick Goddard at CHF, Riewoldt at FF. Milne and Saad the deep forwards with Siposs/Milera/Schneider rotating through there.

As for rucks, McEvoy clear number one, Kosi playing second fiddle, then dropping forward to provide another target. Could also allow BJ some time in the middle.

I would play Cripps, Fisher and Gilbert as my designated runners from defence. Dawson, Gwilt and Dempster/Polo as my more defensively minded backs.

I would try Kosi as CHB in the NAB cup to see what happens...

I would also look to recruit one of Joey Daye or Daniel Currie with one of the later picks in the draft. We need another developing tall on the list - both of these guys (more-so Daye) have shown some decent promise. Daye only loses his spot due to GC's huge number of ruckmen.

B: Dempster, Dawson, Gwilt
HB: Gilbert, Fisher, Cripps
C: Montagna, Dal Santo, Gram
HF: Siposs, Goddard, Schneider
FF: Milne, Riewoldt, Saad
F: McEvoy, Hayes, Steven
Int: Armitage, Ray, Kosi, SUB: Ledger

Em: Milera, Peake, Stanley

Backs are unbalanced.
Swap Joey and Schneids.
Bring in Ledger for Gram (not at CHB)
Siposs in for Ray.

Unbalanced probably, but I like my centre line forward....and Dal back. :)

I just assumed Dawson would take the first tall, and Fisher would take the second if they have one (keeping mind a lot of sides don't have a monster second tall these days)

Don't forget this is my Rd 1 side and Gwilt comes in Rd 5 8-)

I'd somehow draft a few players that can play straight up in 2012, not dud after dud!

i am Melbourne Skies - sometimes Blue Skies, Grey Skies, even Partly Cloudy Skies.

If I was coach I'd ask the board to resign for being so stupid in hiring me.

If however they decided to keep me:
As a top priority, I would demand bar service in the coaches box with party pies @ 1/4 time and chocolate crackles @ 3/4 time. Victory pizza and French champagne would follow the game win lose or draw.

I would hire Mick Malthouse to deal with the press after the game whilst I was having a rub-down in a King St establishment to re-establish my equilibrium.

Wouldn't be a bad job come to think of it.
:D

I'd only hire Mick to clean the toilets and showers.

Poor Mick.

It would be an extremely hard task to clean toilets also after 10 meat lover victory pizzas and 15 bottles of French champagne dumped in the bowl.
