Saints weigh up Gram trade
CONTRACTED St Kilda midfielder/defender Jason Gram could today join Carlton if a late bid by the Blues is successful before the 2pm trade deadline.
It is understood the Saints are entertaining the prospect of losing Gram for a satisfactory trade swap involving at least one high draft selection.
If Gram - the Saints' best-and-fairest runner-up in 2006 behind Nick Riewoldt - is traded, it will ease the club's salary cap pressure and allow St Kilda to retain its required players who are currently out of contract.
Gram played 20 games this season and finished 10th to Sam Fisher in St Kilda's best-and-fairest count.
After playing two games for Brisbane in 2003, he was traded to the Saints, where he has since played a further 137 matches.
St Kilda has already traded Tom Lynch to Adelaide, but has refused to deal with Sydney, which has a keen interest in Irishman Tom Walsh, who is yet to play a senior game.

Please don't tell me you both are serious....
We get a ruckman which we desperatly need not a great one but at least a decent one. We lessen salary cap pressure which we need to do. Sure this board will lose their favourite whipping boy but with Raph and Dawson (unless they are traded) they still have plenty of players to bag out

Decent is a word used far too loosely in today's society.Hurricane wrote:Apart from the fact I didnt spell Setanta's name right, yeah im serious.Ralphy wrote:figure it would help walsh stay ?Spinner wrote:Hurricane wrote:That would work well for me.Ralphy wrote:Pick early 20's + OHalipan For one of our pics

That's the simple way to look at it;Spinner wrote:Seems picks 22 and 44.
44 too high. 22 too low.
I'd obviously take 22. But not 44.
Jason Gram for pick 22 or pick 44.
The way I look at it is we want;
Jason Gram for pick 22 - We risk Carlton saying no and then not having enough room to re-sign Goddard.
The way Carlton look at it is;
Jason Gram for pick 44 - Sure, maybe Gram's worth more than that, but I'd rather have a fire sale than risk losing Goddard.

That's very very very loose reasoning.The Saintsational Man wrote:That's the simple way to look at it;Spinner wrote:Seems picks 22 and 44.

I could say we trade Gram for pick 44. But then Fisher also leaves to Carlton in the PSD because he is best mates with JG. And it ends up being pick 44 for Gram and Fisher.

What would his salary be…?
300K? 350K? more?
That near BOG in the 2009 GF would have ramped up his his value a lot…
I think we'll have to take the best offer, regardless of if we think it's enough. Setanta has played enough games to command a few dollars these days too, don't think we'll see him at the Saints - thank god.
