Congrats to the board
Here's a headline I'd like to see: "Saints show strength in trying time."
And they have. Since Judas' betrayal they've handled the situation wonderfully IMO and appointed just the man we need at the helm.
We are a strong club, and I am proud.

"Too big, too strong, too whatever."

Have you ran this past Joffaboy and Barks yet?
This board have refused to be hassled or distracted by the hysteria created outside the club, and have with quiet determination stuck to the task in hand namely the job of interviewing and appointing a new Senior Coach. The manner in which they have conducted themselves both during the lengthy process and at the media conference today is a credit to the club.

St Kilda forever ( God help me)
Noticed the presser was at Etihad not Seaford.
Obviously Watters hates Seaford.
Trouble brewing.

I know you're joking but it was just smart thinking the Frankston Freeway on a Sunday is a nightmare plus all the journalist would have been camping out at Etihad due to trade week anyway.joffaboy wrote:Noticed the presser was at Etihad not Seaford.

Now that we have made a decision that has been roundly applauded, just how does GT come back from his idiotic rantings? Knobphiltee wrote:But wait, what does Grant Thomas think...?

Well you can....but you cannot appoint Coaches or Football Directors after the season is finished.BigMart wrote:I think Ill reserve judgement on the big ticks until after weve played a few games....
So one can also make an opinion about what the club is doing to win games in the future.
After our drafting, and to a lesser extent trading having been below the best for many years Pelchen is on the surface a fantastic pick-up for the saints as we had to lift our game in this are to be successful.
I have no problems with Lyons record, but from where we are at, from everything one can discern from the outside Watters appears to be a great fit for what we need.
Strategically if he will be up to it is probably the main question.
But a Coach is also a leader...and Watters radiates Leadership.
To assist him in the strategy department I think Laidley will come on board.
As the Pies back coach, Watters probably had the least talent to work with, and did a great job.
So based on the here and now...two ticks.
What my rating will be in a year...who knows......

FOr the record, the Board did not make the decision to appoint the coach...a sub-committee was appointed. Secondly the Board will this year oversee a $2m loss, loss in corp sponsorship, poor handling of off-field issues and majorly responsible for the coach walking. Changes at Board level are desperately needed to oversee poor executive managment.
Yes sack the board.freeseptember wrote:FOr the record, the Board did not make the decision to appoint the coach...a sub-committee was appointed. The new coach has made it clear that he hates Seaford by having the presser at Etihad.
Dont believe the "oh we are in trade week excuse". There is a real clash coming between the coach and the board.
I dont expect to see either the coach or board last out the week.

As per my post, and the other thread...I think the Board has been under-peforming....and still may be in the areas that they are primarily responsible for.

How does it work ? what is the board responsible for compared to what the ceo is responsible for?saintsRrising wrote:Yes they are the X-es.freeseptember wrote:FOr the record, the Board did not make the decision to appoint the coach...a sub-committee was appointed. and which one actually approves our senior coach?
both have room for some areas of improvement, but also , IMO , winning the first few games each year ,always makes them all look good. and losing the first few games, and any player behavior issues, makes them all look bad.
