I reckon they'll chase him next year when he's contract is finished.

only for 1,2,3 and O'Meara.
I am sure BJ will sign long term during the year.

I say trade him now. If they want him they will get him, eg $$$$$$$$$ that the Saints cant compete with. It could be the answer the Saints need. Swap Goddard for 2 picks in the top 5 and pick in the teens (effectively 3 round 1 picks, or one of their 17 year olds instead of pick in the teens). Saints end up with say pick 1 and 3, 17year old/pick 15ish. They can then use the picks to rebuild the side while also fixing the Salary Cap issue.

This is the ultimate chance for the Saints to rebuild while their other stars are in their prime. Wait until next year and we get picks at the end of the first round.

Kevin Shitty wanted a young Robert Harvey in return for a player named Cox who couldn't get a regualar game at S--- & Dung.

Why wouldn't he expect to get Goddard for nothing.

only way i'd trade goddard is for their first 4 top picks. other go to next year and get the top 4, otherwise no deal.

will never happen.

the best we could expect is a deal on par with what judd went for. (keep in mind that bj is older than judd was and not a best and fairest winner, brownlow medallist or premiership captain.) that said, we have a slightly stronger negotiating position this year, but will be much weaker next year.

judd went for pick 3, pick 20 and josh kennedy - pick 4 himself. (also pick 46 went back the other way as a make-weight.)

so goddard could go at most for two first round selections (one in the top few) and a player. but gws don't have any players so it would have to be two top 10 picks; or three picks, one top few, one first round, one second round.

Looking at Free Agency next season, if GWS was to make BJ an offer he could'nt refuse, what compensation might we get? Bearing in mind that GWS will probably only have the first pick in each round.

I would suggest Pick 1, and a couple of the compensation picks GWS are banking. And maybe a player

i don't think the compensation comes from the club who get the player. i think it's like the compensation picks for uncontracted players that gc and gws have got over the past two years.

geelong got two first round picks for ablett (dual premiership player and brownlow medallist). so i think we'd end up with one first round compensation pick, unless he wins the b&f or brownlow in which case more, maybe a first and second.

Cats compo for Ablett was 2 picks in the first round being;

"One of the selections can be taken after Geelong’s usual first-round pick (dependant of ladder position), while the other will be placed in the middle of the first round regardless of where the Cats finish on the ladder."

Melbourne recieved the same for Scully didn't they so Goddard would be worth the same I'd think.
