Methinks he should take up the full time Sandy job, he will coch in his own right and will be developing the younger players. IMO it will fast track his coaching carrear and keep him at the club
And the president said " I did not have sex with that woman"
And our former president said " Football is like golf"
Go Sainters !!!!!

Just in case there was some confusion plug, I was not talking about the article.plugger66 wrote:Im unsure anyone said it was disgracful stuff.Dr Spaceman wrote:"Pelchen and co have indicated to Harvey the strengths and weaknesses of his bid and while still disappointed, Harvey, the Saints' games record-holder, four-time club champion and former captain, told the club he appreciated the honest feedback.
The club, in turn, has indicated its strong preference for Harvey to remain at St Kilda, where he is contracted for the next two seasons, having returned to the Saints at the end of last year after two years under Brett Ratten at Carlton."
Yeah, it's all pretty disgraceful stuff
But it's started already and if you come back in a couple of hours this place will be in meltdown about what they've done to Harves. The club, the board, Nettlefold etc.Â
Just saying I don't reckon we've treated him badly at all. If he does want to be a senior coach, and if that ambition is improved by going elsewhere, so be it.

Come on Plugger. There is NOTHING in the Wilson piece that even HINTS at a factual basis that Harves may walk. She could just have easily written "Harves didn't get a second interview but it's believed he'll probably stay." The former's more attention-grabbing, but as far as I can tell it's been made up on a whim. Ne'er ever a 'sources say' or 'insiders are said to have...'plugger66 wrote:If anything even slightly negative is written about our club it is a media beat up. Over the last couple of years I would suggest there has been plenty for the media to beat up. I reckon it is about time people dont shoot the messenger and look at what is happening to our club. From the outside it doesnt look great and I reckon even the players must be wondering what the hell is going on.Linton Street Saint wrote:What the hell are you guys smoking ? .... Do you for one second think he is the type of bloke who needs his ego stroked ? .... Shame on you all
Best thing to do would be completely up front and honest with him. If he decides it's better for his development elsewhere then all the best to him. He won't stop being a club legend, he always will be.
That is all ......
It is what it is. Beat up. Again. I'm well used to it now.

Got on to that Maher character on SEN when he was getting into the club over Harves! (and probably lost it a wee bit But gee those guys give me the "Eartha Kitts"!!!!!) I forgot to say to Twatson that we appointed a "great player" once before (1998) who then took us from 6th to wooden spoon in TWO seasons!!!! ..ring any bells?

This would be correct if Harvey was way short of the mark and taking him through to the second round was purely an act of charity.fingers wrote:THen in 2 months it leaks out that he got a 2nd interview when he didn't really deserve it....that would be worse.saintspremiers wrote:What so do a sham interview for no real reason?meher baba wrote:Why couldn't Harves have been given a second round interview? Even if they didn't think he was quite good enough? It would have been, what, 1-2 extra hours of interviewing to avoid this sort of stuff.
This sort of decision is management 101.
Nettlefold must be a total dud.
Smacks of real disrespect to do that.
Very stupid idea IMO.
But you guys are all forgetting that we actively recruited Harves to the club as an assistant and then made him interim coach when Lyon left. So he surely is a credible candidate: he has a deep understanding of the club and is currently the coach. He might not be the best candidate, but I would have thought he was dead certain to make the final cut and I can
completely understand why he might take this as a signal that the club doesn't want him.
Is this the signal they truly wanted to send to him?
As I said, management 101

'Signals' are unnecessary. Transparency is surely far more important.
Maybe he interviewed really badly. Maybe his plan wasn't much chop relatively. Maybe he didn't articulate his thoughts clearly enough and in a manner conducive to convincing the powers that be he was up for it.
It's not a charity.
Harves would know that better than anyone.

Aaah yes, the pitfalls of bringing back former champions to the club.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
Harves will get over it. And if we lose him as an assistant it is no great loss, quite clearly.
Just look at 2009 and 2010. I'm sure the senior players are aware of his limitations and wouldn't be questioning the club's decision with respect to Harvey. Certainly it would pale into comparison compared to their feelings about the board's inability to secure Ros$$ Lyin.
As earlier stated, he is a club legend regardless of what happens from here.

It's amazing to see just how much tripe is peddled by the media, and swallowed up by some supporters. Yes we "actively recruited" Harves as an assistant coach. When Lyon did a runner we needed to have someone as "caretaker/interim coach" and Harves accepted the role. I can't see how by appointing him as "caretaker" he should then be given anything other than a shot at an INTERVIEW for the gig. To my way of thinking He applied for an interview and was given one, the club have done nothing wrong and have not been "disrespectful" if Harves never got past 1st base, and how anyone can say otherwise is beyond me. Honestly, these guys like maher twatson and wilson give me the "Brad Pitts" when they shed crocodile tears about a "former club champion being disrespected" do me a solid!!! The day I see the media caring ONE hoot about the welfare of my club will be a cold one in hell!
And IF we followed the sentimental track and appointed Harvey and he failed we would then be accused of "nepotism and cronyism"
Leave the board to do their job! and back the coach WHOEVER that may be!
GO SAINTS!!!!!!

Disagree on this point. Who were our caretakers when Alves, Watson and Thomas were sacked?thejiggingsaint wrote:When Lyon did a runner we needed to have someone as "caretaker/interim coach" and Harves accepted the role.
Caretakers are only common place during the season. Pelchen has been steering the ship anyway.

Gee this forum is a funny place. Much hatred for GT for his "exit out" comment re harves (one prominent poster still has a rant about it in his sig block), even though this was clearly a slip of the tongue.
But all of a sudden, no respect for Harves at all. Legend of the club, seemingly lots to offer but, stuff up the interview and out the door you go, mate. No ceremony. Let's choose from a bunch of guys about whom we know next to nothing. But hey, they scrub up well in a press conference. You beauty!

My point is that perhaps Harves interpreted being given the interim role which most of us saw purely as a move for solidarity as much more; even a sign that he was in the box seat. Perhaps a got a sniff of the James Hird 'prodigal son' mentality. If the club's communication with him wasn't adequate at the time in outlining the truth about his standing, then it had potential to cause issues down the track.thejiggingsaint wrote:Rokay!!!!

Awesome.
That's the trouble with making someone interim coach... you either have to eventually give them the permanent job or demote them.
And if you need to demote them I would think you would have to handle it delicately and diplomatically..... I'm sure Netters is confident he did just that.
I for one will be more upset if Harvs walks out than Lyon.

Largely agree. Although I trust Caroline Wilson's sources more than 99% of Saintsational posters' sources.thejiggingsaint wrote:Then in that case dcstkfc as we (most of us without "sources") know, without being privy to all that went on in that period all the talk in the media is simply scuttlebut!

Well alas I have to start agreeing with Barks.
I am becoming convinced that the board members read saintsational, and make panic decisions base on the tripe that is written on here.
There are no guarentees of what the next coach will deliver, and personally I think the Saints should have taken a punt on a club legend. Instead we will end up with a coach on the back of Mick Malthouse recommendation.
Good ole Saints like the unpopular kid who is always doing what they think will impress the big kids. All the while having the piss taken.
