I was never sold him as a coach. Or "director of football" positions for that matter

Seemed an old school style screamer who had pasion to spare though. Maybe thats what we need though.

Id prefer Leigh Matthews in that role though.

Not a fan of Laidley, don't think I'd be too keen on him being involved with the club.

Not a wrap for him and tbh listening to his "techical analysis" has never filled me with wonder bout his footy knowledge. Ive actually always had him down as a tad unstable.

Get Mick in mentor capacity......not sure we need a full time in the role anyway.

Heard yesterday he was on holiday with his family in Bali (?) and they got attacked by a gang. Laidley got glassed in the face. Poor guy.

I think Laidley would be great in a director of coaching role... He is very good tactically, and in terms of development also.. Just had something lacking as a senior coach imo...

I remember back in 2003 on the day after North defeated us in round one at the MCG, Patrick Smith saying that Laidley was a future "superstar coach" I thought that assessment to be somewhat hysterical and premature. Nothing that Laidley has done since has convinced me that he is anything other than a "good ordinary coach" Sometimes I wonder how the likes of he and Wallace (AND Eade for that matter) are referred to as "experts" and "gurus" :? :?
As for Laidleys much touted "tactical nous"..well I was there up at the Gold Coast in 2008 when North had us on toast with a six goal lead at 1/4 time and we reeled 'em in and then rolled 'em! (some "superstar coach" )

known as "junkyard dog" I believe. I still remember him getting into a blew of some sort with a North supporter while en-route to the huddle at the dome. Seems a wee bit too "intense" for a position requiring a cool head and strong nerve, rather than (so-called) "passion"

And apparently the Western Bulldogs are after him to hold McCartney's hand.

Now that's got a good ring to it. McCartney. I wanna hold your hand. :P

His nickname lwhen he was coaching at North was "The Bible", because he was hard to read. Interpersonal skills were not a strength, I'm told. Thanks, but no thanks.

Vaguely remember that.
Didn't the supporter commit suicide?

Sounds like his family are a charming bunch!

Unfortunately, yes. Though I understand it was gambling-related, not altercation-related.

Excellent tactician, poor communicator, great understanding of football strategy and skills/positioning development. Good insights into the game, too intense, not personable, can get angry and aggressive.

Very highly rated internally within the AFL industry. Would be a good get as an assistant ... not as senior coach.
