Pelchen's Trade wish list
Said this morning on radio that we are looking for:
A Ruckman
Small/Quick forward/s
Speedy mids
Will be changes to playing list this week. Have a very deliberate plan on what they are doing.
Salary cap- He said we will NOT be over cap in 2012. AFL is letting us reduce our cap of our own accord, they have not "told" us what we must do. Saints have been in discussions with AFL for a couple of months on this subject. Very similar to cap at Hawks when he was there. Also said that our cap would be the same as several other clubs currently.

Someone should tell Pelchen we need quick medium forwards (of the 185cm -190cm variety) .. no more smalls unless they are lightning quick and highly skilled.

I don't get the obsession with mid sized forwards, smalls and talls work when goals come from the midfield as well. It worked at sydney and we were obsessed with finding another o'keefe. Just not many great ones out there.samoht wrote:Someone should tell Pelchen we need quick medium forwards (of the 185cm -190cm variety) .. no more smalls unless they are lightning quick and highly skilled.

I see a good medium forward as a need... not an obsession.
We see what happens with small forwards against top sides - Milne gets an O'Brien .. who shuts him completely out.
I'd take a lightning quick small though... like a Rioli - that's different.

Fair enough. We will need a replacement for Milne very soon. Need at least 1 small crumbing forward. Small quick forwards have found out our tallish back line over the last couple of years. Eg. Carlscum last year when they thumped us.samoht wrote:O'Brien was just an example.
Our small forwards get found out vs the best defensive sides in finals... against bigger opponents.
Do we want to improve in finals ? .. if so we need quick medium forwards.

Re: Raph .. I think we've been there, tried it.borderbarry wrote:One of a couple of forwards about Raph's size we could draft, Daniel; Marksworth and Brett O'Hanlon, both 189, both capable as mids as well. Then again we could use Raph I suppose.
Raph reads the play well .. but has the reflexes and sensibilities of a half back flanker unfortunately.
I think both Maric and Gunston are exactly what we need. I've thrown a few names around already, but Gram, Lynch, Stanley and a second rounder all have value to make this happen.
Only downside to this is that it is not relieving salary cap pressure. The fact we are not mentioning Gunston or his position means that we are either looking to blind side the Hawks at the end of trade week, or are going with Fev. Maybe his move to Darwin is a ploy to stay matchfit and not get caught up in Spring racing carnival???
