Gary Ayres in the news?
A plea for information here.
Did anyone hear Ayres mentioned on SEN this evening?
The Lioness tells me that she heard SEN discussing the coaching position and that the strong word was Ayres as frontrunner; almost a done deal.
While she's not generally given to hallucinations, I'd appreciate hearing from anyone else who heard the discussion.

just a caller saying they had heard him having coffee with a saints Board member.
they were talking to a Corporate Psychologist about leaders and leadership and of course got onto both Saints and Lyon and Pies with Malthouse and Buckley.
BTW he works for Linfox and is going to India to work with LInfox there.

Never give up
Wonder if they're sounding out Ayres for the 'mentoring' role, or just picking his brain, or has already been mentioned, discussing kids from Port Melbourne... Having coffee in Malvern is a very public location for being 'confidential' or incognito...!!! Unless of course, that was the aim, to throw everyone off the 'scent' of what's really going on!

Re: Gary Ayres in the news?
wasn't anything specific- although questions about Lyon talking to others whilst still coaching the saints and leadership as shown by all parties, and included the inferance that for all the talk of honour etc Ross has not or did not tell his players. ....and how people/ supporters would view the various parties.linmarnic wrote:I missed the bit about Lyon saintbrat, what did they say?
same wtih the Pies situation.
apologies for above- I have typed the word 'heard' and of course when quoted it has repeated so I can't change it there- But meant ' seen'

Holder of unacceptable views and other thought crimes.
I hope he gets the gig.....just for the reaction....
Are we saying being an assitant role in the afl prepares you better for a senior role...
The two jobs are nothing alike......an assistant is in charge of a few blokes and a section of the ground....
A senior coach runs an entire footy dept....players, coaches, support staff...and is responsible to fans, media, board.....
If an assistant is crap....the responsibilty falls to the senior coach to fix it...

And what if ayres is deemed by the panel as the best option....
Because really....you have chosen a coach you have little knowledge about as better than a gumby....who played 270 afl games in the strongest team ever to play under the best leader of men one could imagine...
Coached afl for ten years....223 games winning 55% at two huge clubs...
Infact his biggest issue was going to clubs after they had a successful cycle....they were both due to fall...
Look... I would not recommend Ayres either...but not because i am silly enough to say he's a nuffie....he is clealy not....An outstanding leader....better men than you and me acknowledge this...
And not because i am in favour of taking a risk and offering a new coach an opportunity to learn...
I think a top end team like ours, with good leadership....requires strategy coaching, not mentoring....gary is a bit old school tactically
BTW .... Unsure about the kids comment...not sure how to take that??
It didnt really make sense to me...

Same here spert. Growing up as a kid I had to put up with all my friends laughing at me because I barracked for St Kilda. The main offenders were Blues, Tigers, Hawks and Bomber supporters.spert wrote:I don't care who is coach -I just want a premiership..I'm sick off all these Cats and Pies supporters I know giving me grief about it.
Now its my kids turn to cop the stirring at school. In just over a years time I will be 50 and I'm still waiting for that oh so elusive flag. It really does s*** me that we have clowns driving our club. eg. The relocating home games to Docklands, the abandoning of Tassie and finally the biggest ballsup in our history, SEAFORD.
These 3 decisions haven't ruined our club, but what they have done is diminish our chances of winning a premiership. Our only real chance of winning a premiership within the next 10 years is to do a full on rebuild. Unfortunately the short sighted people associated with our club will not do this because they are more interested in the "now" and keeping their lucrative "jobs' safe.

oohhhh whoever becomes our new coach, we will have knockers, whingers and the world will be ending that night!
Whoever the club decides is the best coach, then I am willing to give them a go. Gees listening to some of you, Ayers doesn't even have the job at the moment and some of you are already calling him names like some school yard bully..

I am excited to stay at St Kilda and this is a great result for the Club and all our fans. I’m proud to be part of the Saints and am pleased to be playing football with the Clubâ€
