Chris Scott is a mastermind...oh hang on....the papers won't be giving him all the credit. The credit goes to the playing group. It's a group of players that have been assembled and held together by those before Scotty...Lots of great administrators, coaches and lots of sacrifice for this core group to remain together and strive for premierships.
This Cats team will go down in history as one of the very best.

How is that?Moorabbin Man wrote:And our team as the great chokers
We just got pipped in 09 and had a 5 goal turnaround in the second half of GF1.
How many GF's did Geelong lose in the 80's and 90's before they won in 07?
Overused simplistic and just plain dumb to call the Saints chokers
Lance or James??

I have mixed emotions. Except for a bounce Collingwood would have nothing from the last two years and we would have a flag.
That will always burn me.
However for some reason seeing Collingfilth lose today has made the pain fractionally more bearable.
They never ever deserved back to back.
McGuires arrogance in getting rid of Malthouse has, I reckon disrupted them this year, and now Buckley gets a gift wrapped list from Malthouse.
Fk em, should not have a flag from last year either.
Good on you Geelong. Awesome team.

Yes Geelong lost a number of flags and they were clearly the second best team in those years up against the best: Hawthorn '89, West Coast '92 & '94 and Carlton in '95.joffaboy wrote:How is that?Moorabbin Man wrote:And our team as the great chokers

We were the best team in '97, '05 & '09 and still found ways to stuff it up. 09 should not have been close, we were 4 or 5 goals better than Geel in 09 and probably should have been that far ahead at 3 qtr time in the GF. No excuses, we choked!!!
Culturally we have always celebrated and been content with a handful of superstars whilst tolerating an abudance of hacks. The only club I'd wager that we win a Premiership before is the Bulldogs, because their culture is worse.
As a club I do not believe we know what it takes to win a Premiership, the expectations of supporters have never been high enough and my patience has worn to the thickness of a strand of cotton.
Here is a hard truth: If we do not win a Premiership with this list in the next year or two (which is now highly unlikely), then we will be waiting for more than a decade and the Club will not survive. Simple as that!

well done to scott - took over a team with a core of champions and tweaked their game plan.
we on the other hand took a numpy who changed wholesale how we played and it took two years before we adapted to it.
freo again the losers in this - let a great coach go to win a flag elsewhere and paid over the top for a lesser man.

Guys like Varcoe can make the difference to your team. He's one of about 3 or 4 specialist goal kickers for the Cats. He sarted well, looked crap for the most part but when it counted, the game was on the line with only 10 or 15 min to go and he kicked a pearler.... Rossco just didn't/doesn't get it?BigMart wrote:41 inside 50's to 17 at half time in 2009
Could not capitalise....didnt get the job done...
Geelong did
Goals Goals Goals!!!!!!!!!! That's why AFL is great. Did Jack Steven debut down in Launceston a couple of months before the 2009 GF? Did he kick some nice goals down in Tassie on that day?
In the 5 years that Rossco was at our club has he brought in a bloke apart from Scneids and plonked him in the forward line to be a goal kicker? Can anyone name a player that debuted in our team in his first ever AFL game and the coach identified him as a specialist goal kicker?

We were beaten. Beaten by very good teams on the day. So be it.

I think any team that's played in a Grand Final, or even made the Top 4 could possibly lay claim to 'should have or could have won the flag that year'.noob wrote:should have had at least 1 flag in the last 14 years
Hell, I reckon we should have won in 05!
But really, it doesn't matter. A great team pretty much wins it each year. And a great team often doesn't win it too.
You just sit back and cross your fingers and barrack hard that it's your team that gets across the line!

How the hell did we choke?Moorabbin Man wrote:And our team as the great chokers
We didn't even get there - even if we did, just losing a grand final doesn't make you a choker. Losing a grand final when you are heavily favoured to win it doesn't even make you a choker. no one TEAM can be a choker because it consists of 22 players
Or are you suggesting that 22 blokes can have the exact same thought at the same time: "Oh, stuff this, we give up"
