or maybe the stadium deals - hence the dates being included-
given the AFL were to take over etihad in? 2025 was it but there has been strong indication that it may occure earlier.
3 of top 4 clubs on that list play unequally out of etihad

It does appear that way, although most of the others have had little on-field success to boot, so it makes sense...I would have thought we were a stand-out amongst the top listed teams, so must have a super crap deal, or another reason.Solar wrote:me thinks so since most of the money go to those who have been screwed by the domes dealssaintlee wrote:I think it has more to do with our stadium deal....degruch wrote:Is our large allocation have much to do with AFL's partial funding of Seaford? Let's not look a gift horse in the mouth. Take the money and put it to good use. Despite what some football followers say about our dire, grim and unattractive style of the past few years, fact is we've done plenty of winning and have supplied some of the great memories of the AFL.
I for one believe we deserve a decent chop-out. The saints are an integral part of the competition, not just there to make up the numbers. Even the folks on here have made their contributions. That is, we are a passionate, loyal and relatively stable membership and supporter base. No one could rightly describe us as anything but committed.

I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!

the football department is one area that has grown over recent yearsMarcus1232 wrote:I just hope we put it too good use.
lets hope we can put some more spending into the football department now
BUt given the current trends- ie even melbourne wanting 8 coaches... - then it will always draw more than any other area.

a couple of points I was pleased to see.
http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/ ... fault.aspxUnder the new agreement, the AFL will approve all key appointments at clubs and will hold the ability to conduct a detailed review of procedures if required.
AFL CEO Andrew Demetriou described the process of consultation with the clubs for the distribution as the most comprehensive the AFL had ever undertaken.
And he warned that clubs having to pay coaches out after breaking their contracts would risk affecting their package.

It's good to see how well the overall competition is doing, to be able to get these contributions. Don't forget that these amounts cover the years 2012 - 2016.
Agree with others, that it seems that those with the poor Etihad deals are going to get some compensation - about time !
From a longer term sustainability perspective, the Saints Board needs to do a lot more in developing "non-football" revenue opportunities. The excessive reliability on Sponsors and ever-increasing Membership is in my view, not sustainable in Melbourne over the longer term.

So does this mean that the AFL is going to contribute to building us a Stadium in the Frankston/Mornington Peninsula area in order to connect better to the bayside area? (much like Geelong has Kardinia Park)
Really the whole thing is bulls*** just the AFL saying we make so much money from the system being weighted to the Carltons and Collingwoods that we aren't going to attempt to actually fix it and build the clubs up more equally.
Can we get priority access to draft MPNFL players (perhaps under a bidding system like father son) that would help build our connection with the bayside area.

I think it's exactly that.
Although I don't really mind.
The AFL created this 'entertainment monster' that was once known as the footy. And they can't turn back now.
They need the crowds. They need the viewers. They need the big bucks.
The sacrifice is of course, that everything is rigged in favour of the big clubs. Not neccessarily rigged towards them to win, but rigged towards them to play in big games, to play at the MCG and to get exposure.
The result of that is more money, opponents with less money, more supporters and therefore more power and more resources.
And of course, that gives an on-field advantage.
But as I said, the AFL have gone too far now, and it can't be turned back. The only way now for them equalise it, is to give money and/or resources to the clubs who aren't on the receiving end of ANZAC Day matches each year, and 400 MCG games each season, and no travel etc. etc.
And make no mistake, this is not the AFL helping some clubs to give them a chance against the better clubs - this is the AFL equalising an imbalance that they created.
They hand some clubs good draws and big games, on a platter. That's as much of a handout as what we're now going to get.
