Joffaboy it's ok we can agree to disagree!
I choose to agree with Nick Riewoldt and Brendon Goddard's first hand account!!
AND as embarrassing as it is for you...you can choose to agree with Gerard Whateley and Caroline Wilson's opinion!
FACT IS THE BOARD INSERTED GET OUT CLAUSES WHICH GAVE BOTH PARTIES THE RIGHT TO WALK AWAY AT ANYTIME!
I know you're a bit simple...but surely even a nuffie with a pea brain can understand what this means!
You do understand right?
The board put it in writing that Lyon could walk at ANYTIME!
Any clearer for you?
To QUOTE Nettlefold!
"There's a high level of respect for Ross and we don't feel deceived."
I think it is quite clear from what Riewoldt and Goddard have said that they are disappointed the deal could not have been done earlier and that they do not feel deceived by ROSS LYON in any way!
Now if you want to keep believing Gerard Whateley and Caroline Wilson's initial reaction and uninformed opinions on the matter then that is your prerogative!

The bloke's had 2 good seasons out of five. $650K PA. Should've bitten our hands off. Anyway, he's gone now. Hope he has more luck at Belmont Park.markp wrote:Not a 4 year extension, a 4 year deal... to a coach who had taken us to consecutive GF's, and effectively to within a kick in both.B4E, markp, yourself, all chose to ignore that he was 1.5-8 win-loss when he started attempting to gain a 4 year extension on a 1 year contract at $650k pa...that's big money, and a long time to committ.
I would've thought $650k a year would just be at the higher end of mid-range for an AFL coach these days, and average money for a very good one.
I dont know why you keep stating this crazy notion. I dont even know Whately and Wilsons opinion, I haven't read or heard thembarks4eva wrote:Joffaboy it's ok we can agree to disagree!

I really think you have overrached yourself on this issue and are now very lost and confused.
You stated in the OP that Lyon didn't deceive us. It is now on public record that Lyon texted members of the St.Kild aboard and his own representation at 2.30 pm last Thursday that he accepted the 4 year unconditional contract offered by the STKFC.
Barely 2 hours later he marched into Nettlefold office and resigned.
This is deception, pure and simple. Lyon absolutely deceived both the STKFC and his own representation with the acceptance of terms text.
Now to your delusion that Goddard and Riewoldt were first hand at this event.
Interesting.
Riewoldt was in hospital and there is no suggestion that Goddard was in the cafe in Seaford with the St.Kilda board members and Craig Kelly when Lyons deceiving text of acceptance came through.
So you are relying on two players who were not even there when the deception took place.
barks4eva, you have dug a massive hole for yourself on this one.
You created a straw man argument based on assumptions and ignorance and now you have been found out.
You see it is not a difference of opinion about the title of your OP. Any thinking rational sensible educated person would realise that the facts are on the public record that by texting acceptance of a contract and then barely two hours later resign, walk out, and become Freo's coach.
This is not a thread about if RL should have taken the money (that you tried to turn it into after you had been found out), this thread is not about percieved board incompetence ( not signing Lyon earlier or get out clauses of contracts), it is soley about your OP title.
On that case you are wrong, hopelessly and irretrievably wrong.
No matter your squirming, and smokescreens, and sidetracking and attempts to confuses the issue.
You are wrong, and you have been found out.
And once again like the tawdry, turgid, RIX episode, your credibility and judgement has been found confused, wanting, and poor.
Give it up barks mate, I implore you.
please before you dig a bigger hole for yourself. Mate it is embarrassing for you
Lance or James??

real- contract at freo is 4 years and latest figures rumoured make it around $3.5 for that period not the $7 suspected. so not greatly differant to what was finally offered by the saints..barks4eva wrote:joffaboy, on the same page as Whateley and Wislon...oh dear how embarrassing!
A new offer came in late for five years and an extra 4.9 million dollars ( 7.5 compared to 2.6 ) before anyone had put pen to paper!
Who would not take that?
FAIR DINKUM
KEEP IT REAL!
are there productivity bonuses - as with ratten- get us into finals?
I am happy the club took the fiscally responsible way- whilst upset at the result and the way it was portrayed by some- I am sure many more would be unhappy with being put in debt to keep a coach...

Its not about contracts but trust and understanding which counts IMO. The RL experience is left field.barks4eva wrote:Joffaboy it's ok we can agree to disagree!

And thank heavens for that. Otherwise we would have had to endure another year of his empty and passionless cliches and dud game plan.barks4eva wrote:The board put it in writing that Lyon could walk at ANYTIME!
Has all but wrecked one of the greatest players we have had and used up and ran into the ground a great list.
And when they were spent and couldn't give any more because there was nothing more to give ... he jumped ship like the rat that he is.
The least inspirational man I've ever encountered.
You have never ever mentioned anything like that before. Some people on here amaze me how their memory lasts one week. Maybe we should bring out some old posts just revive their memory. Go to the doctors. There could be a serious problem inside your head.bigcarl wrote:And thank heavens for that. Maybe we should bring out some old posts and reveal how anti-Ross Lyon I was when he began and how bad an error I considered GT's sacking to be.plugger66 wrote:You have never ever mentioned anything like that before. Like others, I tolerated him because we won more than we lost ... but in truth I never really warmed to him. Glad to see the back of him.
Thats fine that you were anti Ross at the start. I didnt want GT sacked either and said it. Why dont you bring out some post from 2009 and 10 when you were anti Ross instead of when he replaced a guy you didnt want replaced. I am serious maybe you just cant remember the last few years. There might be a medical diagnoses for that. By the way you dont have to warm to coaches for them to be a good coach. Now plenty of pies supporters who cant warm to MM but reckon he is a fantastic coach.bigcarl wrote:Maybe we should bring out some old posts and reveal how anti-Ross Lyon I was when he began and how bad an error I considered GT's sacking to be.plugger66 wrote:You have never ever mentioned anything like that before. I remember them fine. We lost two Grand Finals and drew one when just a little daring with team selection or tactics could have made the difference.plugger66 wrote:I am serious maybe you just cant remember the last few years.
But we were never going to get that from Mr Predictable.
Like I said, I'm glad to see the back of him.
Pity you and many others have only felt that way for a week. Wonder what happened in that time.bigcarl wrote:I remember them fine. Of course, in public, Roo, Goddard and the board are going to say no deception.
It's what we don't hear that is the truth, because privately, thye would be seething.
What we are saying is PR spin so that we don't become involved in a public brawl with Lyon and Fremantle, the club has had enough headlines in the last two years to last them for the decade.
I think the true feelings may come out when we play Freo next year, because we will be hell bent on beating them again and embarassing our former coach.

Speaking of deception, this may have already been discussed but who is going to read 12 pages of barksveva vs the ROW......
However was the Freo board aware of Ross' monetary situation or did they care or did they zero in on his weakness and in his mind desperation for lots of money, seeing he had just lost lots of money?
If so, they have their pound of flesh but it wont' be a happy relationship.

I find it interesting you both didnt want GT sacked.
He should have been sacked two years earlier.

History will show someone else came in and did a whole lot better.
Tough decisions have to be made when they are the right ones.
Aka Fremantle and Mark Harvey.
Also didnt think he should have got the job. History will also reveal the 'process' was manufactured.

In 2004/05 we were never a top two team... There abouts but always an arms length away.
Bit like the Bulldogs the last couple of years. Never the dominate team.
My opinion anyways...

We're all entitled to our opinions. Mine is that the young core that Buttersssss/GT built was always going to play in Grand Finals and was always going to peak from about 2007 onwards.Spinner wrote:Saints43 wrote:Fair enough. In 2004-2005 Rooey, Dal, Kosi, BJ, Joey, Ball etc, etc were just boys really. Even Lenny and Milney had yet to reach their peak.
G-Train, of course, was at the peak of his powers and Harvs was still playing good football, so that helped.
But Hamill was never on the park and we had injuries to Penny, Maguire, Kosi, Riewoldt, Ball, X-man and others. We didn't spend anything like we do now on sports science.
It now seems that history will show that this talented core will never taste premiership glory ... be it through bad luck, bad management or whatever. In footballing terms that is a tragedy IMO.
