Goddard not on GWS radar.
According to Mike Sheahan's understanding/sources. Interesting. Not sure whether this has been mentioned anywhere else, but this is the first time I've heard this from anyone (especially someone who could have good intel). (And I'm not interested in hearing anyone's personal opinion on Mike Sheahan, as this is not an opinion piece by him, it's just him relaying what his sources have apparently told him, in his "Write to Mike" section of today's HS.)
If true this would certainly make it far easier to re-sign him one would expect. It may be the first break we've gotten in a while.
Apparently he's very much in the sights of one of the big Melbourne clubs, though.

Re: Goddard not on GWS radar.
Sheehan would obviously have better sauces than I do, but I would be extremely suprised if GWS, who have or are intending to sign Chad Cornes, Dean Brogan, James McDonald and Luke Power, would ignore the possibility of signing Brendan Goddard when he becomes a free agent next year.AnythingsPossibleSaints wrote:According to Mike Sheahan's understanding/sources. We lost out. Simple as that.
Lance or James??
There comes a point in every man's life when he has to say, "Enough is enough." For me, that time is now. I have been dealing with claims that I cheated and had an unfair advantage in <redacted>. Over the past three years, I have been subjected to a <redacted>investigation followed by <redacted> witch hunt. The toll this has taken on my family, and my work for <redacted>and on me leads me to where I am today – finished with this nonsense. (Oops just got a spontaneous errection <unredacted>)

If they sit down at the trade table with us and try to negotiate a deal for BJ, we ought to put a framed photo of Lovett down on the table, facing them, for the duration of the negotiations.BigMart wrote:They owe us for selling us a lemon in 2009.....although the gullable fools that bought him are responsible for that masterstroke

Re: Goddard not on GWS radar.
Those ones you mentioned would come to them at base salary and are just there to provide a bit of protection and leadership for the younger ones in their first year (or two) of AFL. Goddard would cost them perhaps 10-15 times more than each of them and they may not be prepared to spend that much on someone who is closer to 30 than 20 and would be nearing the end of his career when they start vying for a flag (they hope).bozza1980 wrote:Sheehan would obviously have better sauces than I do, but I would be extremely suprised if GWS, who have or are intending to sign Chad Cornes, Dean Brogan, James McDonald and Luke Power, would ignore the possibility of signing Brendan Goddard when he becomes a free agent next year.AnythingsPossibleSaints wrote:According to Mike Sheahan's understanding/sources. But they are going to have a list of 18-22 year old kids a bigger salary cap than the rest of the clubs and an opportunity to sign one of the competitions top 5 players.
Unless they actually sign another superstar, they are telling porkies if they say they would not consider signing Brendan Goddard when he becomes a free agent next year.

Dawes has been linked to GWS .. Didak will prob be gone , Davis will go .. Not to mention brown retirinand possibly Tarrant so if they replace then with kids they should have room... Plus this is collingwood don't put a simple thing like cap space get in the wayBigMart wrote:They struggled to fit thomas in.....BJ would be on abot a million for his next contract.....they would have to lose a big name...
