DISASTER if true.stkfc1 wrote:Said it on another thread.
Have heard, from a usually reliable source with links to the club that he is
under serious consideration for a coaching role in some capacity.
Obviously waiting till this weekend is over before starting talks, but the
feelers have been put out apparently.

I wonder if they're keen on him as an assistant in the event a first-time head coach is picked - just to have a more experienced head around...or maybe as an assistant anyway.stkfc1 wrote:Said it on another thread.

For - very experienced at AFL level. Good record at Port shows that he can relate & develop young guys. A mature coach who has "been there, done that" which would come in handy at a Club with the apparant internal problems that we have.
Against long time away from current AFL coaching methods & tactics. Has been overlooked in recent years.
What to do - put in your application and put your best foot forward in the selection process. The Saints Panel is wide-ranging and looks good to me, so I will be happy with their call.

Watching the Port Melbourne, Williamstown GF and I am impressed how well drilled Port Melbourne are. !!
Considering they were not looking too crash hot in the first qrt and where 4 goals down..To come back and now be 27 points up half way into the 3rd is impressive !
I am starting to warm to the idea that Ayres might be a good possible coach for us and I know some of you will go no way....But no matter what coach we get, we will always have some unhappy supporters.
Any coach even at VFL level to go thru the whole year undefeated says something I think.

In Ross Get lost!
I am excited to stay at St Kilda and this is a great result for the Club and all our fans. I’m proud to be part of the Saints and am pleased to be playing football with the Clubâ€

I agree. Ayresy is a what? 4 time premiership player or 5?Ajantis wrote:Too many people judge a Coach just on face value, and no other attributes.
I think Ayres has alot of experience and would be a valuable asset to St.Kilda, without any judegments on him directly.
Cheers
Won more games than he lost in the afl was generally a succesful coach. Has done brilliantly in the vfl.
Should command respect.
If we get a first time coach and hire ayers as an assistant I will be pretty comfortable.

Well if he does come across to the Saints I hope he late drafts or rookies a couple of those Port players.
No. 20, Dwyer, looks like he can play a bit.
Might get a Barlow type gem out of the VFL. Not saying Dwyer is a Barlow but the same premis.

seriously going for Ayres and we are digging the bottom of the barrell...FFS......Con Gorozidis wrote:He's certainly not a cabbage. peole also learn from their mistakes.
I would be wary of him as senior coach. But I'd certainly have him as an assistant and steady hand. Clearly he has some ability as a coach and person.

Gary Ayres??? Please noooooo!!!! As I posted elsewhere, remember how he dumped the hillbillies in their hour of need. We don't need a second Judas coach in a row.
As for his coaching ability, I seem to remember hearing that he lost the players at Adelaide. Certainly the Crows, with pretty much the same list, turned into the Crowbots and were much more formidible as soon as he left.
Strength Through Loyalty: our motto and what we need in our coach.
