Is Frankston Seaford such a bad idea for our future?

Don't get me wrong I would love it at junction oval as I live in Prahran but im thinking future here.. new members new supporter base..

im pretty sure they are the stats archie fraser used when making his decision. i dare say it was the major if not only factor in his decision.
probably not a bad thing long term. might have been more pleasant if we took over frankston oval near the beach and town centre. but seaford might end up ok long term.

I live in Frankston and since the move to Seaford the growth of young St.kilda supporters is astounding. At both my cousins and Sisters primary school on the "Footy Days" St.kilda is the highest supported team, they might not be members yet but give them some years and they will be.

The purpose of the club being in Seaford is a mystery. If it is just a training/ admin facility, then it could be anywhere, so it might as well be back at Junction Oval which could have easily been brought up to standard, as we are St Kilda after all.. We don't play AFL matches in Seaford, we play them in the city or interstate, and supporters go to Etihad or the MCG to watch the games, otherwise games are watched or listened to on TV, radio or over the internet. I think Seaford is not seen as high profile or funky by advertisers/ sponsors etc. A recent training footage on TV of the team at Seaford a few weeks back showed the players running around against a backdrop of an unattractive concrete factory slab wall smeared with equally unattractive graffiti -not a great look compared to an attractive parkland or city skyline backdrop. I suppose we are stuck with it now.

I don't get the criticism

we have top class facilities for us NOW

after 5 years of negotiating at Moorabbin... we had nothing and would require another 2-3 years of negotiating to get anywhere. I love Moorabbin don't get me wrong... but there are ppl on that council that were just plain opposition to the club.

Everywhere else was at least 5 years away and as far as i know... other than Casey Fields there was no other strong contendor willing to accept the Saints.


What exactly is it that people want here? What are the alernatives?

I'll say it once and i'll say it again in 10-15 years that will be prime land - the haters will laugh but if you look at all the area's on the bay they are all million dollars suburbs ( besides Seaford) - Foward thinking people!

And most of the suburbs to hit a million now were un-desirable 10 years ago - why do you think we moved here from Sandringham ( where we owned).

Stop whinging and bitching and accept it for what it is as you aren't going to change it.

I just hope our punt pay's off and I can stick it up all the haters in 10 years!

I think it will prove to be a winner as the area develops around it... minor short term pain for long term gain.

A lot of the cats players live in torquay dont they?... I know here I'd be moving if I played for the saints, and I'd love it.

How long does it take to drive from Sandringham to Seaford?

It takes me 15-20 mins (I'm being generous) to get to Southland so another 5mins on top of that to Sandringham ( going Nepean H'way) - Beach Rd is longer

Nothing wrong with Seaford. I've never even been there. What does it cost us? $1 a year?
Posted elsewhere, the exposure that the saints get in the local community is quite broad. They are all over the local schools and footy clinics. Perhaps, just perhaps there was some forward thinking here.... But that cant be right, it was the current board wasnt it?

Will have sweet bugger all effect on free agency anyway.

Seaford is miles away from me ... but I don't mind it. Went down there a couple of months ago for training. It was very cold (but was probably very cold everywhere), but from the "Lunch with Lenny" videos, the interior looks very good.

As for the players having to drive distances ... the new players will probably move into accommodation on the other side of Frankston, which is very nice. Banger's been living down there for years. As long as you are on the other side of the hill, it's a very nice place to live.

And we have a nice little area all to our own. If only we had still managed to keep our zone, and therefore Leigh Matthews, Chris Mew and Dermott Brereton, who are all from near there.

Junction Oval is listed with Parks Victoria, no way would they let any development happen there.

Why would anyone who owned/owns in Sandy and moves to Seaford is beyond me.

All the suburbs along the coast to Frangga are fine, but surely 99% of people would prefer Sandy, unless of course you wanted a house twice the size/better than what you had in Sandy....

Of course we would but we didn't have 1.5mil to sink into a family home ( we lived in an apartment a block form the beach) so we decided after looking the whole way down the bay that Seaford was a good financial decision for the future, as it was highly appealing because it hadn't boomed and was so close to the water.

This is the last I will say on it but most people who are moving here are young families who have professional jobs - it's not what it used to be - I just hope Frankston hurry up with the planed marina!
