Coach Selectioin Panel Formalised

Post: # 1145866Post Junction Oval »

....... and what a good panel it looks! Congratulations Saints - it's the first decent decision that I have seen in all of this drama. See the Saints site for more details :

The selection panel will consist of:
- CEO, Michael Nettlefold;
- Head of Football, Chris Pelchen;
- Director and past-player, Nathan Burke; and
- NSW Institute of Sport Manager Coaching, Athlete and Program Services, Clare Prideaux.

The selection panel will be assisted by a specialist advisory group consisting of:
- Former AFL player, Brad Johnson will advise on football matters;
- Director and Managing Director of Coles, Ian McLeod who will advise on commercial matters; and
- Bluestone Edge Director, Pippa Grange who will advise on people, culture and leadership matters.

"The recruitment program will be systematic and comprehensive and is expected to be complete in approximately four weeks."

This is music to my hears, the words "systematic and comprehensive" are exactly what's needed.

Brad Johnson??

I would have thought someone like Tom Harley or Brett Kirk would be good.

To be complete in 4 weeks also leaves the door open to approach Malthouse after his season with the Pies is finished.

What's Brad Johnson like? He'll smile a lot and put the candidates off.

For many years, the difference between the Dogs being a middle runger and a top four side was Brad Johnson. Mugs don't play 364 games, no matter what the team. It would appear that whatever some people do when they go to games, they don't actually watch what is going on. The best Dogs player in the last decade by a mile. Now that may not make him the most erudite on football matters, but that's another question.

Different look about panel, agree the diversity of the group and the skills set they bring looks good. Always liked the smiling assassin and maybe between him, Burkey and Pelchen they can make up for the lack of a coach on the panel that GT wanted...no Pagan, Parkin, Matthews...hopefully no worries.

Well that's finally a positive from the club. Good mix of skills, knowledge and experience. I'm glad they're going about this professionally and not making a decision in haste.

That's one bloody complex framework!

Maybe they'll just give it to GT again and bypass the difficulties that arise is such complex process frameworks

I'm prepared to give this panel a fair go. Brad Johnson is a good decent man and will I'm sure perform his task in a good manner. I like the way in which the board are not out there big-noting themselves or getting involved in the media frenzy surrounding the developments at Linen House, but instead are quietly and firmly getting on with the task of interviewing and appointing a new senior coach.
