All these people saying Robert Harvey cant coach or hes not ready yudda yudda yudda, i guess all these people know the inner sanctum down at St Kilda and that Rob is a just a lap dog assistant. I have it on very good authority his work is exemplary and that he leaves no stone unturned in his quest to get the best out of his squad physically and tactically.
If hes a dud coach please put your proof forward or stop saying he not ready etc etc because you wouldnt have a clue if hes ready or not.
He holds record career games
Has been rated in the top 50 footballers of all time.
2 Brownlows
All Australian 8 times
3 EJ Whitten Medals
1xAFL Players Association Most Valuable Player Award
4x Trevor Barker awards
Club Captain
3 years as an assistant coach
now Caretaker Coach of the Saints now a fav to take the job
etc etc etc
He would get my vote every time, would love to see him get a crack at it.

Well I have it on good authority that he's not ready to be a senior coach - so where does that leave us besides having 2 different opinions? Club Legend - yes. Champion AFL player yes - all the above awards - fantastic. Does not make him a guaranteed great AFL coach.GoTheTorp wrote:All these people saying Robert Harvey cant coach or hes not ready yudda yudda yudda, i guess all these people know the inner sanctum down at St Kilda and that Rob is a just a lap dog assistant. Interesting market and in many ways a depressing one.
I love Banger, always will but don't think he is what we need right now.
To have Eade, Burns, SOS and Mark "Um Err" Harvey as leading chances too I am thinking,...No...No...No...and No.
Looks like Ross has screwed us big time if we can't land MM or Roos.

Scott Watters was very good at Subiaco and experienced success with 2 flags, albeit with a very good side at the time. He is a good communicator and performing well currently as Collingwoods defensive coach. He also came across as very astute in his time in the media in Perth.MCG-Unit wrote:Surprised that McCartney and Scott Watters are not in the market at all.
I reckon Burns will get the Croweaters job, and Cameron the WB
My preferences would still be Roos, Alan Richardson, Scott Watters, Rob Harvey and maybe Sanderson
I want us to look for someone who has been playing the game in the last decade and is in touch with the modern game. IMO the old rant and rave types have had their day and let's hope we bypass the Eade, Malthouse and Craig (or similar) route when its time to pick our coach.

What is wrong with Rocket Eade?
Started the Sydney game plan (although ugly) - a premiership eventuated using virtually the same plan.
imo did very well with a limited Bulldogs list.
Is not set on a certain game plan - flexible according to playing list
Very experienced, would be a good fit to get us back on track. Banger needs a couple of more years

I don't have any real insight into any of the potential coaches except one: Rodney Eade. I know a few people who have worked for him. They were remarkably unimpressed. People were incessantly terrified by his unpredictable outbursts. He delegated most of the strategic work to other coaches. They mentioned many other damming problems, none of which I would like to mention on this forum, partly because my information is only second hand.
Even if their perception is not entirely accurate, their concerns highlight one crucial issue: We do ascribe incredible power to the head coach. Like in business, the best thing the head can do, often, is to allow people the autonomy to thrive.

Yes I've heard only positive reports on Watters, good to hear more - that's why I was surprised he is not in that betting market. Also keen on Richardson, he seems a quiet type like Rob Harvey - doesn't mean they can't coach seniorsbusso mick wrote:Scott Watters was very good at Subiaco and experienced success with 2 flags, albeit with a very good side at the time. I mentioned Roos in case they prefer an experienced coach. He may not have played in the last decade, but he doesn't have that temperament of Malthouse and Eade.

Gary Lyon doesn't think much of him...definitely didn't want him at MelbourneSouthern Moss wrote:I don't have any real insight into any of the potential coaches except one: Rodney Eade. Eade didn't realise there was a new tactic called the press.....thought it was a collection of journo's
How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

I'm with you on those 3, Harvey too inexperienced, would be a disaster IMO.philtee wrote:Here are the Sportingbet odds. Again Harvey at $3...won't happen.
